Had my first proper round of golf at Oadby yesterday! What a sport! No better feeling than leathering it sweetly off the tee! Although admittedly didn't happen too often! I even managed to fluke a birdie on a par 3!

Anyone else play much here? Anyone have a particularly low handicap?

Only play on a driving range every now and then. Dont hit it too far but im concentrating on technique mainly. Last time i played a full round was last spring time so im very rusty! (ie. Shit!)

But practice makes perfect. I just play it to relax really and its a nice hobby!

As far as I am concerned this is the finest individual sport that there is. Every single game offers different challenges and moments of sheer pleasure and pain.

As you get older you also begin to realise that the golf course gives you an opportunity to find real relaxation. I've found that it is the only place I know where you really can forget about all your troubles for a few hours as you concentrate on the game. The game also teaches you true sporting honesty and the value of manners and etiquette.

If I can venture one piece of advice to new starters........ get some lessons as this will make sure that all the fundamentals are in place before you put bad practices into your game.

Finest game I have played is a couple of years ago on The Arden championship course at The Forest of Arden. I played a week after the British Masters had been at the course so the set up was as it was for the pro's. I got round the front nine in 1 over (gross) which so fazed me that I cocked up on the back nine. Even so, I ended up with a 78 (par 72) that I can still picture virtually every shot. No better feeling.

Must admit that I played very very well last Saturday at Shirley, Solihull scoring 42 stableford points off 3/4 handicap of 15 and didn't hole any decent putts .

Keep playing, it really is a great game that can be played by people of all standards because of the handicap system.

Well I've played in the past and wasn't very good. I have to say I didn't find it very relaxing as I got too uptight. Now this maybe because I was playing right-hand and I am naturally left handed, but both my lads are right - hand and at the time we were able to share the clubs.

I'm now seriously thinking of taking it up again with some left-handed clubs, although I didn't notice much difference when I tried this previously, but they say practice makes perfect so perhaps there is more potential to improve my lef-handed game. I shall get some lessons - my problem then will be finding some old geezer who wouldn't be too embarrased to go a round or two with me.

I play quite abit , played today but not very well.

My handicap is 12 , its a great sport, at times you relax but at other times it can get really annoying.

I'm a member at Forest Hill and play every week (most times twice in the summer).

Love it.

My handicap is currently 14 and dropping rapidly as I keep shooting below my handicap in the comps.

We go to Spain (Peurto Banus) annually to play on the best courses in the world, hot sunny days, great mates and golf - you can't beat it.

I've just taken the sport up.

Got myself a full set of clubs and have been visiting the golf range a couple of times a week.

It's a great feeling making a sweet connection, but for some reason I just can't hit with the Woods off the tee!!

I think lots more practice will do the trick.

in my opinion golf is a good sport but it seems to be boring. someone once described it too me as " A good walk spoilt" and i have to agree the walk is relaxing but i cant be bothered to walk 50 yards to hit a ball. its a personal preference please dont have a go. i much prefer cricket :D

Like so many sportsmen I've ended up playing golf as the only game my body can cope with respectably.

Handicap has ranged from 8 to 9.5 over last couple of seasons but the question I'd ask of any seasoned golfers is: "What the hell happens overnight?".

You can be the striking the ball gracefully and with pinpoint accuracy one day and the next the clubs don't even feel as it they're yours.

The fairway doesn't exist and all you get is four hours of nature study in the woods and streams.

That said there are always compensations. Fresh air, exercise, good company and a game that, even in adversity, is always good for a story or two.

Just as well really , cos you'll never master it on the scorecard.

I really admire him - he's done bloody well to overcome all the negativity and racism that was thrown at him.
