StanSP Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 5-a-side football was incredible to watch. Felt privileged giving the gold medals out on Saturday. There were 805 ceremonies in total for London 2012. I was part of the 805th on Sunday night, presenting Bronze Medals for Iran in the 7-a-side football: http://paralympics.channel4.com/video/key-moments/videoid=1236980/index.html#russia-and-the-ukraine-collect-their-gold-and-silver-medals
Captain... Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 Its true..most of the events we did best in aren't exactly cheap to compete in although the athletics success might get some out going for a jog if nothing else. My sister is joining a rowing club, it is not that expensive, it's just not really considered as an option to most people. As for continued coverage, athletics will get a higher profile for a while especially if ennis or farah are there cycling tours will gain in popularity but velodrome stuff like sailing and rowing will probably disappear again. We need grandstand back, but it will have to compete with soccer Saturday and all the live Footy. Or sky sports will pick up a lot of these Olympic sports but put them on around their football F1 and cricket coverage and disappear again.
Raj Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Victory ceremony today at 4.45pm. Presenting Gold Medals to France or Brazil; that match kicks off at 3.45pm . Just seen this. what an honour for you. Well Done. We saw the 7 a side footy, luckily we saw Russia who won the thing. Some of the players could easily play professional in our lower leagues. P.s How did you get to present them medals?

Yeah we got to watch some 7-a-side footy on the day too - saw the semi-final between Ukraine and Iran. Ukraine's 2nd goal was an absolute thunderbolt. I said exactly the same thing to my mate re: their standard. Some would definitely be capable to play in League Two at least. As for getting to present medals, I applied all the way back in 2010 to just be a GamesMaker volunteer. We were part of the Victory Ceremonies team but on my application I genuinely don't remember selecting that as a preference - all I remember is saying that I'd love to work at a football event/ground, and that I was available to work at the Olympics as well as the Paralympics. I waited til Oct/Nov 2011 for my selection event/interview and then found out at the start of this year that I'd be working at both Olympics/Paralympics at various venues and would be a Medal/Flower-Bearer.
