James18 Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 Falcons bossing! Hopefully we don't fail this year in the play-offs. I know it's early to be thinking play-offs, but the rest of our division is 1-3, 1-3 and 0-4. Hahahaha! Finally becoming a passing team
Guest MattP Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 Tebow is garbage. "Tebow Time" last year was all down to the Broncos" D and special teams. Tebow has such a terrible throwing motion. I don't think Sanchez is a particularly good QB, but I feel bad for him--signing Tebow effectively threw Sanchez under the bus. I honestly think the only reason the Jets signed Tebow was as a ploy to sell more season tickets and "personal seat licenses." If Rex does turn to Tebow and the Jets go on a tear, I'll eat my hat. That's harsh, not a huge Tebow fan but some of his fourth quarter drives in that run were pretty impressive, his performance against Pittsburgh in the play offs showed he does have something. Fact is by hook or by crook he did get them winning, I see no reason why he shouldn't get a shot with the Jets at the moment.
Lamby Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 Cardinals missed FG with 0:00 on the clock in Q4, off into OT now
EnderbyFox Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 Giants completely dominating 49ers in San Francisco, winning me money in the process! Eli Manning is bossing it, Alex Smith throws 3 interceptions haha
Guest Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 Lost, dammit Yeah but should they have won it if it weren't for the ref Lamby?
Lamby Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 Yeah but should they have won it if it weren't for the ref Lamby? Exactly. god damn pass interferance
Jordan Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 Giants completely dominating 49ers in San Francisco, winning me money in the process! Eli Manning is bossing it, Alex Smith throws 3 interceptions haha Even though 26-3 is a resounding win, the scoreboard doesn't even tell the full story of how much the Giants dominated that game. If not for some passive offensive play by the Giants in the red zone, it could have been even uglier for the 49ers. The big story of the Giants' defense and the 3 INTs was the Giants' front four. The Giants have a bunch of great pass-rushing defensive linemen, and when they're able to get pressure on the QB by themselves, they can make any secondary look good. Memo to the NFL: The New York Giants are still the Super Bowl champions.
mancunianfox Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Epic win for my Denver Broncos last night. Peyton led the team from 24-0 down at half time to win 38-24!!!
RobHawk Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 Not come on here looking for an argument before anyone takes this wrong. I know there are alot of americans on here and clearly a good few NFL fans too so i'm here to try and learn. But, i don't get the appeal in american football? I've tried watching a few games on the TV and they are so slow, every tiny bit of action is then stopped for a few minutes before more action. It's so stop start i just can't get into it!

That is fair enough, it certainly isn't for everyone. For me it is the ultimate team sport with plenty of contact, drama and tactics. That any team can beat anyone because of the way the league is designed to allow poor teams to improve it is my current favorite sport.

I personally love the tactical element of it. Analysing plays and the calls made by the teams to make a particular play are very interesting to me, plus then the tactical use of time outs and running out of play to stop the clock in order to make best use of remaining time in a game. Yes it doesn't have the continual play element of say Football/Rugby but I guess it's just a different way of viewing tactical elements of a game, which is after all what we spend countless threads discussing on here in relation to city. I understand its not everybody's cup of tea but to be honest it took a bit of persistence initially to really understand it and once I got it I couldn't get enough of it. Same with Baseball for me too

Same with Baseball for me too I don't like baseball either!! ! an american friend of mine once explained that baseball is all about going down to the stadium and getting hammered with your mates! I generally tend to get into most sports quite easily, but i find with AF, i spend as much time watching players coming on and off the pitch as i do any action. I like the idea of the tactics and strategy, and maybe don't know the sport well enough to get it, it just seems too slow for me. Maybe as you guys suggest it's not my cuppa tea. Its a sport that's really start to grow over here and i can't work out why (apart from the huge sums of money the NFL are pumping into getting it over here!). Its really interesting to here all your reasons for loving it though so keep them coming!

I wasn't even interested in it until a year ago when my friend toook me to the American football team at my Uni's freshers fair. Since then, i've enjoyed every minute of it. Generally it's because the team i'm at, has a really good atmosphere about it, I find it way more intense and physical than rugby as even though its stop-start playing, i'm full on sprinting when i'm playing.. And tactically, its unbelievably complicated, especially if you're in Offence. Only just started training with a team in south France, it's great fun

Oh yeah it's definitely about that too, as I found out when I went to Yankee Stadium last week for game 3 of the division series It's the equivalent of going for a day out down the cricket, basically it goes on for so long you've generally got time to get a beer in in between innings. Cue me being absolutely smashed by the time Ibanez hit that home run at the end

It's like a giant game of chess, that's the appeal. When you learn the rules you realise what an incredible game of mental strength, athletism, skill and courage it is. Older I get the more I enjoy "patient sports" anyway more than Football etc..

There are a lot of sports like that though that have a flow to the game and i think are much more enjoyable to watch. If you've not all guessed by my avatar i play lacrosse which is fast, physical and tactical as well. Difference is when we get knocked down, play goes on. Anyway i digress this isn't about comparing lacrosse and american football. I like your analogy of it being like a massive game of chess as i was never a fan of chess! Maybe that's why i can't get into it! I know we are all different i just find myself surprised at how quickly it seems to be growing over here.
mancunianfox Posted 16 October 2012 Posted 16 October 2012 I know we are all different i just find myself surprised at how quickly it seems to be growing over here. A big appeal for me is in the way that the NFL is structured. Players come up through high school and college to learn their trade before being drafted by the NFL. The draft has seven rounds and the worst team picks first with the best team picking last. All the teams have the same salary cap as well and while there are ways around this it does allow a more level playing field than in football. The domination of football by an elite group of teams, appalling refereeing, loyalty of star players and the lack of tackling are some of the reasons that I have gotten into NFL as it solve a lot of those problems. While the game can be a bit slow compared to football it isn’t a great deal slower than watching Barcelona or Spain pass the ball around the half way line 50 million times before deciding to eventually shoot. The league does help the poorer teams to get better and avoid the best teams being able to stockpile players. This leads to a situation in which any team can beat another and you don’t get Real Madrid’s or Manchester United’s who can dominate for decades based on financial superiority. For example the New York Giants are the reigning champions but lost a number of important players who were out of contract because they did not have enough salary cap space to keep them all and other teams were able to offer them a much better deals.
Lamby Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Vikings v Steelers on 29th September and Jaguars v 49ers on October 27th at Wembley next year
James18 Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Missed out this year. Next year is a must for both games. I'm hoping for some sort of offer where if you buy tickets for both games it will be cheaper. Also why we're talking football.... 6 and oh!

I would of gone this year, but **** paying £80+ for a ticket. Going to this on thursday though: Marcell Dareus, defensive tackle for the Buffalo Bills in the NFL will be at our Westfield shopping centre store on the 25th October and you could win the chance to meet him. 100 people could win a VIP goodie bag including mini football, but in one of these bags is a golden ticket. This will give you a pair of tickets to see the St. Louis Rams v New England Patriots on Sunday 28th October as part of the NFL International Series 2012. Also going to this next saturday too: http://www.nfluk.com/tickets-events/fan-rally?utm_campaign=Oct+19+-+Events+tease&utm_source=emailCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=
