FantasticMrFuchs Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 http://soccerreviews...lawsuit http://www.goal.com/...ce=breakingnews A Dutch judge has ordered Mesut Özil to play in football boots without a brand name for 180 days. A judge in Amsterdam has ruled in favour of Nike after the American sportswear giants took legal action against German international, Mesut Ozil, following the midfielder’s sudden switch into Adidas boots. The attacking midfielder has been spotted multiple times this season wearing Adidas football boots, but without the iconic three stripes on the side. Although Ozil is no longer being endorsed by Nike, they have the right to equal any offer made by potential rival sponsors before the Germany international can legally switch brands. According to the 24-year-old and his representatives, no contract has been agreed with Adidas. However, the court in Amsterdam has questioned Ozil's motives to start wearing Adidas, finding it unlikely that he would switch boot brands without another deal already being in place. The court has ruled in favour of Nike and decided that the Los Blancos star must outline any offer presented to him, which would allow Nike to come back with a new offer in return. Failure to do so would result in a €150,000 daily fine.[/font]

I dont know if i understood this correctly... but I dont think he broke a contract... and if he didnt.... what right does anyone have to say what brand of boot he can use? Just seems all very OTT..... I suppose, although it didnt say, it was in his original contract that he MUST inform Nike if he switches to a new brand... but even so... Its all very crazy and controlling....
Soar Fox Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 This actually went to court? WOW surely there's more important things happening in the Netherlands than this.
Captain... Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 It depends if he is wearing Adidas because of a sponsorship deal, or just has no deal, doesn't really care about a deal ad just wants to wear the boots he thinks are the best for him. I find that unlikely and any footballer with an ounce of sense would immediately approach adidias and say I want to wear your boots, lets do deal. All he has to do is notify them of the deal then reject any counter offer Nike make. All seems a bit pointless really.
21st Century Fox Posted 23 October 2012 Posted 23 October 2012 Football has it's priorities right once again. Depressing.
