Finnegan Posted 15 November 2012 Posted 15 November 2012 My da is off to New Yoik in Jan from the 4th to the 8th. My sister and I are looking in to the possibility of tickets for a sporting event as a birthday and Christmas present. There's two of them going but we're not sure where to start looking. I guess I'm looking for help with, firstly, working out what's on over those days - if anything - and secondly the easiest or cheapest places to get tickets. We had a bit of a search ourselves but generally just got confused. Any help appreciated!
Rocket-Ron Posted 15 November 2012 Posted 15 November 2012 Wouldn't he prefer Bull riding ?? http://www.thegarden.com/pbrmsg
purpleronnie Posted 15 November 2012 Posted 15 November 2012 New York Rangers Vs. Buffalo Sabres on the 8th...so not sure he'll be able to make that...much more expensive. New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics- MSG 7th Jan. - Pretty expensive tickets. Brooklyn Nets Vs. Sacramento Kings - Jan 5th - cheap tickets I always phoned the box office up when I went to various places to get tickets, But I imagine tickets in NY are much harder to come by than Houston/Pittsburgh/Chicago where I went.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 15 November 2012 Posted 15 November 2012 No chance of going to see the Rangers, I don't think this lockout is ending any time soon. I got reasonably-priced Braves tickets when I went to Atlanta from Stubhub.com, but since it is essentially a scalping site, your mileage may vary.

That's true, no wonder the MLS is taking off so well when other American sports seem destined to self destruct.
Poakey Posted 15 November 2012 Posted 15 November 2012 Wouldnt bother with Yankees, i went and it was as boring as hell. They dont even watch the game! Got my tickets from the Yankees official website but that was a few years ago.

I'd say basketball would be your best bet as they play frequently. Boston Celtics on the 7th would be a good game, lots of rivalry there. New York Knicks Tickets
Guest Posted 15 November 2012 Posted 15 November 2012 Having just been out there I managed to get tickets before I went for Giants v Browns and Yankees v Orioles through Ticketmaster before I went. It's worth having a look to see if you can pick up tickets as early as poss on there.
Jordan Posted 15 November 2012 Posted 15 November 2012 It's such a shame that the week your father is going looks like a lean week for sports in NYC The Garden, of course, is well worth a visit (it's actually in the process of being renovated, with the project finishing next summer, so a lot of the seating and concourses are much improved). Knicks vs Celtics, though, is always a pricey ticket, and I'm not holding my breath on the NHL re-starting anytime soon. That's a shame, as Rangers games are lots of fun--there's nothing like seeing NHL hockey live--and my "Blueshirts" were supposed to be title contenders this season. However, if you think he'd like to see an NBA game, and he's fine with taking the Subway over to Brooklyn like all the cool kids (it's not that far of a ride), there's the new Barclays Center, where the Nets (who moved over from New Jersey this season) are playing the Sacramento Kings on the 5th. I couldn't care less about the Nets, but the arena is brand-new, really nice (the avant-garde exterior is a matter of taste, though) and perhaps worth the visit while the novelty is still there. The Nets are drawing good attendance so far and are off to a good start, but the Kings are awful, so there are probably still tickets left at face-value via Ticketmaster. If not, if StubHub probably wouldn't mark up the prices too much. Aside from pro sports, he's just missing out on college basketball here, where we have two NCAA Division I teams, the erstwhile excellent St. John's and the usually poor Fordham. St. John's hasn't won anything in years, but they're the "city's team," and they split their schedule between Alumni Hall in Queens and the Garden. They're playing Rutgers, from NJ, at the Garden on the 9th, which looks like it'd be a fun day out. Also, Fordham isn't back home themselves until the 9th. They suck this year, and their Rose Hill campus in The Bronx is in the hood, but their campus is quite nice and their arena is an intimidating place for opponents to play. The rodeo actually got great attendance the last time it was at the Garden, IIRC.
