AKCJ Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Trust me there are plenty of ways to be racist in Spanish, negro/negrito is not one of them. Absolutely, i'm not saying otherwise. I'm just pointing out that generally in England it's considered extremely bad to be racist (rightly so) whereas this might not be the case *so he claims* in Uraguay. Not to do with the language, just the culture he was brought up in. I mean, you wouldn't call someone a 'small black guy' over here would you? Not to his face, it's not PC. It might not be offensive, but it's not right. I'm just saying it's a different lifestyle over here and things like racism, in any form, isn't tollerated.
Mark_w Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Hello He didn't change his story, there was some doubts as to the validity of his story due to inconsistencies with what he said compared to what the video evidence showed, but Suarez always maintained what he said, and that was deemed as not racist, whereas what Evra accuses him of saying is racist, with the lack of any evidence it came down to who was the more reliable witness and they sided with Evra. The FA and Evra both publicly stated the do not think Suarez is a racist, that is all I will say on this matter. A Liverpool spokesman said: "The first we knew about these allegations was 20 minutes after the final whistle when the manager was asked to go into the referee's office and told about them. The first thing we did, as you would expect, is ask the player and he has categorically denied using any language of that nature." Suarez told the commission, which also included former Sunderland manager Denis Smith and Sheffield and Hallamshire FA chairman Brian Jones, that he addressed Evra using the word ‘negrito’.

Depending on the context I would, no problem. It's certainly not in the same league as black cvnt which apparently only warrants 50% of the ban. And it clearly is otherwise Evra would have been repremanded for his comments to Suarez.
Captain... Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 He denied using racist language. He admitted using the word Negrito, which is not racist language. He didn't change his story.
Mark_w Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 He denied using racist language. He admitted using the word Negrito, which is not racist language. He didn't change his story. He denied using any language of that nature, surely if it was just a cultural difference Liverpool would have released a statement saying that he used the word but didn't understand the negative connotations associated with it, instead of just denying it?

You are referring to this quote: A Liverpool spokesman said: "The first we knew about these allegations was 20 minutes after the final whistle when the manager was asked to go into the referee's office and told about them. The first thing we did, as you would expect, is ask the player and he has categorically denied using any language of that nature." So 20 minutes after the final whistle, Dalglish was told by the ref, that someone had made a complaint that Suarez had used Racist language. They asked Suarez and he said no. If you read rest of the report you will read Comolli's statement where he then asked Suarez exactly what he said to Evra, and Suarez told him in Spanish. Comoli then said that it could have been considered racist. (Comoli actually mis-understood him, but that is a separate issue).
