The heads of, The Australian Football Federation, The Australian Football League and Australian Rugby League were all at todays meeting which follows a year long investigation.

"The blackest day in Australian sport"

Accusations that 2 AFL clubs, via their team doctors gave their players banned substances...

A year-long government investigation has found widespread use of banned drugs in Australian professional sport and links with organised crime.

An Australian Crime Commission investigation has found widespread drug use in Australian professional sport, with some athletes being given substances not yet approved for human use

The year-long investigation says organised criminal networks have been involved in distributing the drugs to athletes and support staff, including doctors and coaches.

In at least one case an entire team is believed to have been doped.

Oh, so Heskey turns up and its suddenly the 'Blackest Day' in Australian sport, bloody racist Ozzies

Why do they call it doping anyway?

Surely thats the opposite of their desired effect. Horseracing? :dunno:

My mate plays for the team in question he said it's just a media beat up, but did say he and as others have said they can never be entirely sure of what they are taking as it's the docs and sports medicine guys who administar all the suppliments and vitamins.

TBF, more than just a beat up. A year long investigation, heads of all major codes and a massive increase in betting on A league games.

Can understand the players seeing it that way..."we just do as we're told"... but it appears there is a lot in it and from whispers ive heard, quite a lot more to come. If Essendon are found to have used the illegal substance... the whole team/club could face 2 year ban???

I was talking about Essendon only, like reports that each player was systematically doping. He basically said and like any athletes they get told what they are taking but not the brands etc. Ie. Giving you some vitamins to boost your immune system and all trust is on the experts.

yeh i think this is the issue that is most concerning, I dont think the players were out to cheat, but, the players were told what to take, they trust (as they should be able to) that their team Coach/Doc etc wouldnt be doing anything dodgy.

However it appears the management "may" have known they were over the line and so where does that leave the players and the club?

As an Essendon supporter, I'm absolutely gutted by this. There's no way of coming out looking clean; best case scenario we're cleared, and the club just looks incredibly stupid, naive and suspect for facilitating Dank and his alleged dealings with Charter. I dont even want to think about worst case, but its so disheartening all the same. It seems like the fans and possibly the whole playing group have really been shafted.

Wait... has this actually been big news? I genuinely haven't heard anything about it

Me neither. Found out from a mate in the UK :D

SFC have been playing like dopes all season so can't say I'd be surprised if they were involved
