Captain... Posted 28 March 2013 Posted 28 March 2013 I'm pretty sure it's already 6 points fr a ban. It was when I passed 9 years ago I thought. The article is talking about increasing the amount if time it applies. But why not apply to everyone not just young and new drivers, why not just make it 6 points across the board get 6 points and a small ban. 3 points is a fine. 6 points a fine and a small ban 1 month 9 points a larger fine and longer ban 6 months 12 points big fine and permanent ban. I've been driving for 10 years and never got a single point on my license, nor had an accident.

Bellend Sebastian Posted 28 March 2013 Posted 28 March 2013 I expect it won't be too many years before insurers insist that everyone has those black boxes in their car that report your driving habits. At least in theory they can then judge your risk based on your actual driving and not how old you are, your preferred trouser etc. Has anyone got one of these? I'm sure that they have been rolled out and aren't just something off of Tomorrow's World (which no-one younger than me will remember, probably)

We can monitor his performance via a web portal as do the insurers. He knows if he cocks up a)it will cost him, b) Mum and Dad will not bail him out.

I should get one in our car so I can see when my other half is at Fosse Park pissing all our money away on homeware

Vlad the Fox Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 Surely limiting engine size and banning modifications upto three or four years after passing their test regardless of age would be a better idea. You ain't gonna do any damage in a 1.1 yellow fiat panda.

Vlad the Fox Posted 29 March 2013 Posted 29 March 2013 I used to have a Peugeot 205 that would take about 5 miles to get up to 70. Used to really **** me off, and anyone behind me, when something pulled out in front of me. Going uphill was a trauma as there was a real fear I would stop and with a dodgy handbrake rolling backwards was a possibility. I used to rock in the chair as if it would make me go faster.
