Fox92 Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 You are still able to drive, just not after a certain time of day. Quality... And what about half of the people that smoke while driving and use their phone while driving? It's still not fair on the young drivers that don't actually do anything but drive safely and correctly.
anotherharboroughfox Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 I'd say young drivers are mostly pretty educated about the dangers of driving and are very safe. I believe the accidents in my age group are caused by inexperience rather than stupid/reckless driving i.e not having driven on a road before so taking it too fast etc. I drive to work in the evenings (I'm 17) and as Mike said the only way I'm going to crash is if I took my eyes off the road for a while. And even some people my age I know who drive like twats are well educated about using phones while driving and don't even think about doing it.
StanSP Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 You are still able to drive, just not after a certain time of day. Which is what the whole argument is about anyway. . That's what is so silly about this new 'rule'. It's hardly fair on the innocent drivers who drive safely and correctly and without cause for concern, is it? I see tons of 'older' drivers on their phones on the motorway speeding at about 80-90mph. Why is nothing done to them?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 Can't see the harm in it, but driving lesson costs would HAVE to be reduced if they intended on making people being taught take lessons for a year before being allowed to take their test
Basingstoke Fox Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 I wonder what the age range taken for this study was. Just to get an idea of whether one fifth of the entire population is actually that high? Statistics can always be manipulated to try to prove a point.
Larry_LCFC Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 They can shove a ****ing curfew right up their arse. I mean up to the age of 24? Thats means you could have been driving 7 years and be on a curfew. Ridiculious!
Ross-Kemp Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 What about the other 4/5's of accidents. Focus on them !
acooling08 Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 I'm 19, had a car and been driving for just under a year now, never had an accident. It's unfair the lump all young people into the 'dangerous' bracket just because some boy racers give us a bad name. If you are going to do a curfew, then you need to put OAPs and Asians in there too.

It's the same with a lot of things, show a minority of people in a bad light and the media will convince a lot of people that the majority are the same.
Webbo Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 What worries me about this is that it's probably unenforceable. These young drivers will chance it thinking that they won't get caught but when they're involved in an accident they won't be covered by insurance as they're breaking the law. Their victims will have to go to court to get any damages.

Antime I've heard this proposal- though I've not read the link to this thread- those travelling to and from work 'out of hours' would be exempt
ADK Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 If it means less deaths/injuries on the roads and makes driving more affordable for young drivers i think it is a good thing.

I was going to say 'waste' instead of 'use up', but the people behind the scheme wouldn't see it as waste as the police would probably be on orders to dish out fines to everyone they caught breaking the curfew.

Guest Posted 27 March 2013 Posted 27 March 2013 And casually racist cretins. Our regular Friday night fixture attendance will drop significantly....

Yeah, because the race you are makes you a bad driver. You're a proper knobhead. To use a similar phrase you do, 'it's unfair to lump all Asian people in to the 'dangerous' bracket just because some Asians give us a bad name'. I'm Asian and like I said before, been driving for a good few years and have not once had an accident or any points on my license. But of course, because I'm Asian, I must be put on this curfew. Damn me and my race, hey? Twat.

Damn me and my race, hey? Twat. I wasn't suggesting a curfew on Asians, in fact I was saying how stupid it would be to have a curfew on any group of drivers whether they be young, old or whatever. But if you must have a curfew, why only have young drivers.. why not discriminate against the old or foreign as well? The final line of my post was a sarcastic comment, although re-reading it it's hard to get sarcasm across in text. But it doesn't surprise me how everybody takes me deadly serious though, people tend to see the chance of a heroic putdown or rep point fest and get all high and mighty.

Even if it was sarcasm, you're really not doing it right, especially when you have previous for showing some hatred for various ethnic minorities...
Captain... Posted 28 March 2013 Posted 28 March 2013 A curfew is a retarded idea, but in keeping with the government's divide and rule tactics. Blame it on the youth, all their fault, they want to be seen to be tackling a 'big issue', but in reality they are just victimising one group of society. You want to make the roads safer, improve the roads for a start, no problem with lowering the points to 6 for a ban but why for only the young why not all? No problem with making the test harder, but how can you put a time limit on learning to drive? People learn at different rates, some people have more time and money to learn to drive some people have willing parents and a farm to practice on and could have been driving for years off road. Others may only be able to fit in one lesson a week. I really do worry about this government's ability to think things through.

It was when I passed 9 years ago I thought. The article is talking about increasing the amount if time it applies.
