jordi_LCFC Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Not a first car, but I have had the new fiesta zetec s (got it in the gun metal grey with black alloys looks mint) for a few months now and it is brilliant, not the fastest but great round country lanes. If anyone has been driving for a few years and looking to get a new car definately have a look at getting one of these!
Carl the Llama Posted 1 May 2013 Posted 1 May 2013 I'd avoid anything French as there unreliable . I'd recommend a skoda fabia / vw polo / seat Ibiza. Best car I've ever driven (not that it's a high number) was my parents' Citroen Picasso - great car and never broke down. That said they also got a C3 which has been a catalogue of nightmares.

act smiley Posted 4 May 2013 Posted 4 May 2013 Also, Car leasing is good if you have a low mileage. You can get a decent brand new car for £200 a month on a 24/48 month contract. Even if you Add up the 200 over 2 years that £4800 which is pretty much what you lose off a new car when you drive it out the forecourt! A lot of the leasing deals come with servicing and extras too. But i fear we may be straying from the topic of first cars! So...oz, you could go as a named driver on a parents policy? Always a good thing to do first year of driving! Leasing is a good deal in some rare circumstances. Usually, it's a technique to get a huge amount of money out of people in drips so they don't notice the quantity while creating a large supply of used cars to keep the approved-used market filled and moving with relatively low prices for premium brands on within-3-years-old plates, in order to feed the badge&plate related "keeping up with the Joneses" effect going. Still, the UK has some of the cheapest second hand car prices in the world as a result.
David Guiza Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Couldn't find another topic to put this; but just wondered if anybody has any advice/knowledge on this car issue. Basically a week or two back the clutch was going on my car (struggling to get into first etc) so earlier this week it was replaced, yet finding gear was still a problem at times; particularly getting out of reverse. Which brings us to today, I was driving along the a46 when a sudden shudder hit the car, before quickly disappearing. As I was not in sight of an exit I chose to carry on, this was later followed by white smoke coming from the back of the car and finally the car completely dying. Upon inspection the gearbox had suffered a minor explosion. My question therefore is simply, would anybody think there is a possible claim against the clutch fitter? Or would it be almost impossible to prove anything?
potter3 Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Was the gearbox oil checked? If that's low it can be hard to change gears and eventually it can seize up.
David Guiza Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Thanks for the response - As far as I'm aware the levels were at a decent level, as there was still oil left in there post explosion.
