Canal house, The News House, Ye Olde Trip, Kean's Head, Malt Cross, King William, The Bath Inn

Kean’s Head is outstanding. I would also recommend the Brew Tavern next to the station.

What are the good ones in Nottingham out of interest, because I'm yet to find one... Please don't say The Emerald because I want more than just a dry mixed grill :D. I've done Cumin, Calcutta Club, 4450 Miles from Delhi, Mem Saab, and Anoki - all decent enough, but expensive and pretty standard fare.

I don't tend to eat on Maid Marian Way or eat Indian in Nottingham, overpriced unless u eat between 5-7pm.

Emerald is very hit and miss.  I used to eat at Desi Junction, there both lamb chops were amazing, Shama when the chefs in for a take away is not bad.

For vegetarian Bombay used to be good, they've gone too commercial.  Some of the dhaba's aren't bad.

Leicester has more variety, but again neither are really that good.

Yeah fair, agree to disagree on Leicester. I know you side with Birmingham!

All the Castle Rock ones are good. West Bridgford and Beeston are worthy of crawls themselves.

Ok, I eat on the golden mile/Leicester probably about every 2-3 weeks, there ok, nothing magic that I would lick my fingers to death, hence why I ask.

I grew up with alot of the owners kids and my dad did alot of business with those restaurants including Bobby's, Sharmilees, Blue Peter.  Also knew the original chart house an old hot potato shop

Tamatanga and Mowgli are chains not Nottingham brands, so try again.

I wash my hands with soap and water after a meal.

If you're after the restaurants on Maid Marian Way, they're fine for a laugh and drinking with curry, but nothing else and pretty standard stuff.

So where do you enjoy? Queuing up at Dishoom Kings Cross?

I live in Notts, and they're all fine standard affairs but if i'm craving some higher quality food, 25mins train back to Leicester. Mem Saab and Calcutta are fine for a laugh, beers and "curreh".

It's better than Leicester for sure.

Great grandma kitchens, proper old school 5 dish, est what's given places. Rustic street food stalls that cook infront of u Cracking veggie, meat, fish, dhaba places.  Distinct regions of bengaline,  punjabi, kashmiri, keratin.

Great places with great craft beer.  Place where it gets bit seedy and exotic.  Live bhangra artists.....the place has it all.

And cheaper.

Recommend your top 5 places in Leicester.

My mother in law is the best cook ever.  Away from there.....

Veggie - Guru Ka Langar (Gurdwara Langar)

Meat - i prefer desi style, you eat what the chef makes.  Loads in Brum.  I like desi punjabi mixed grill.  If I want something about more, I love craft beer there are a few in brum city centre.

For sure, Birmingham has good Punjabi food. My point was, Leicester has some excellent food and a wide range of it. That is what makes Leicester scene IMO better.

So excellent, you haven't given me one name, where I can get this excellent food, not even ONE?

Looking forward to moving back in the next few months after about 14 years away. A combo of family circumstances and being able to WFH a lot of the time. I'll never get the people who bash the city, it's got negatives, but it's got a hell of a lot of positives too - like any city.

Hopefully in a few months I'll be living in Glen Parva and thinking about trying to wangle a season ticket for City 😂

I like Paddy's, Little Club, Broadway, Indian Queen and Three Kilns. I'm more into the starters and Indo-Chinese stuff like crispy aubergine, chilli mogo, masala fish, lamb chops etc.

Done Hen & Chickens and Soho Tavern in Brum. I liked Hen and Chickens, but thought Soho Tavern was overhyped. Felt a bit Instagrammy inside and none of the dishes we ordered were that good, apart from the mixed grill which is hard to get that excited about. Agree with you on the price though, it was very good value for money and cheaper than Leicester.

Tried those many times, anywhere else?????

Hen & Chickens used to be great, to popular and busy, standards have dropped, a guy I went uni with, I would say friend, opened a new place in jewellery quarter, also a new place near brindley place.  Which Soho did you go, there's 6 of em?   If you like the desi pub scene, we used to do the West Brom crawl going from The Vine all the way past the city centre to the island inn, all a few steps with 12 desi pubs.  Not done it for a few years.

Dude no-one outside Gujarat and Leicester talk or even acknowledge Gujarati food.

Do any of these restaurants have piles of litter and left over food lying around outside if not they're not what's making Leicester a dump. :P

I mean you clearly have an anti Leicester agenda so no point listing any others lol. It was the one on Park Road. Will go to Birmingham again this year so will hit you up for some suggestions beforehand!
