Rincewind Posted 13 June 2013 Posted 13 June 2013 As part of our presentation on radio, mec and a colleage have opted to attempt to do a sports news spot. It won't just be the usual popular sports though. We want to look at extreme and rare that go on in Leicester so would like to hear from anyone that is involved. We intend to do some filming and interviews also. Maybe on the radio. PM me with any links and we'll do our best to publicise any events.
Guest Posted 13 June 2013 Posted 13 June 2013 I'd start by taking a t out of that title. Not sure if Hallaton bottle kicking counts but may be worth a look

Not sure if Hallaton bottle kicking counts but may be worth a look Just trying to get peoples attention. What I mean is not the mainstream like football rugby cricket. maybe sppedway basketball. The sports that are not well covered by the Mercury/ Our slot will be in the creative section. Does anyone rock climb, snorkel beach volleyball sky dive?

Ross-Kemp Posted 13 June 2013 Posted 13 June 2013 Ah snorkelling and beach volleyball, 2 of leicesters biggest sports.
Rincewind Posted 13 June 2013 Author Posted 13 June 2013 Ah snorkelling and beach volleyball, 2 of leicesters biggest sports. Well if I get expenses I am willing to travel. I did hear today that Action Homeless has a running club and a football team which we might cover. Also they have runners in the Leicester Marathon raising money. I would post it in the General Chat but it would only turn out into one of those 'Why should I give my money to wino's' threads. Anyway the slot I mention won't start until July when we are back on Internet only. Will need to do some research and work out the format.
Darkon84 Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Try looking in to extreme (roller)blading. I did this for 5 years and back then, Leicester had a really good scene and some of the best skaters in the midlands. Not sure the Mockery etc will appreciate a piece on this though, they call it 'criminal damage' when you are on the street. A couple of contrasting styles...Dustin Latimer from 'Brain Fear Gone' , and Rachard Johnson from 'F.O.R.2' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4C7_m9-ZU8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP06tpiHf4E
isaidno Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Does this class as extreme. Truck Racing. It's coming to Donington in August
StanSP Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Does Zorbing count as an extreme sport? Is it even a sport?
Rincewind Posted 15 June 2013 Author Posted 15 June 2013 When I put 'extreme' I really meant not the mainstream sports that would be covered by the Mercury and Radio Leicester. We want to offer something dufferent and make (some) people think 'I'd like to try that where can I find out more, Oh I'll listen for the contact details on RaDNO.' Watching British Eurosport ATM. Motor cycling on. There was motorcross earlier from France and there was a good crowd watching in numbers. Later it's speedway..

Rincewind Posted 15 June 2013 Author Posted 15 June 2013 maybe, another thing we were thinking, it will be easier to interview the manager from a lesser sport than Nigel Pearson.
Guest Posted 16 June 2013 Posted 16 June 2013 Speedway? Brought that back in Leicester a few years back didn't they? Oh and I probably wouldn't refer to them as 'lesser' when you interview them
Finnaldo Posted 16 June 2013 Posted 16 June 2013 Basketball did well this season. Won a double didn't they? See if you can get a interview with Rob Paternostro.
separator Posted 16 June 2013 Posted 16 June 2013 Not sure if this happens in Leicester... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njHE4S-HD3I
