The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/54268/Muslim-only-Alton-Towers.html Been away for a few days so sorry if this has been posted already. I was told about this at college today. I frankly couldn't believe it. Surely this only serves to somewhat divide faiths and sections of our population rather than bringing us all together?! When is the Christian only day?
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 This is a false story. The Sun are trying to mislead you. The park was set to be privately hired out for the day - not a decision made by the owners to enforce a ban on non-Muslims. Please zoom in and read the last tweet by Alton Towers. Can I also request that people do some background research before assuming ridiculous stories like this are factual? Surely it must have struck you as a little odd at first?
Kitchandro Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 I was about to be outraged and then I realised it was from 2007. And the first comment I read said they didn't go through with it. But yeh, any ideas like this are an absolute disgrace. Like trying to hire people from different ethnicities rather than just hiring the best people for a job.

Would a few hundred Christians be able to hire it out for the day, or would that go against Alton Towers' policy?

But yeh, any ideas like this are an absolute disgrace. Like trying to hire people from different ethnicities rather than just hiring the best people for a job. So it is. Either this story is being regurgitated or it's about to happen again though.
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Privately hired by who? Would a few hundred Christians be able to hire it out for the day, or would that go against Alton Towers' policy? Anyone can hire it out for the day, it's a free market. The park will happily sell it to someone with sufficient financial clout whoever that happens to be. I'm afraid you're just getting uppity because it happens to be a Muslim group doing this, I can't imagine you'd have given it a second's thought if the story had read "Alton Park hired out for the day" which is actually what it's all about. Typical Sun going on people's desire to see the UK 'prioritising' minority groups.
Rincewind Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Positive discrimination translated 'I am not racist but......................... Don't forget the Indian Summer Festival is on in Leicester soon. Lots of activities, food and music.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 June 2013 Author Posted 14 June 2013 Positive discrimination translated 'I am not racist but......................... By that do you mean myself or Alton Towers?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Beckham privately hired Alton Towers once for his family.
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Would it be billed as a Christian Only event then? Probably not because that feature wouldn't be seen as very important, it only matters to the Sun if Islam is the religion perceived to benefiting.
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Beckham privately hired Alton Towers once for his family. DISCRIMINATION!
Rincewind Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 By that do you mean myself or Alton Towers? No I mean people who try to find an excuse for things they say. If the Sun had done research they would have been told that anyone can hire Alton Towers and then they would have had to find another story.
I am Rod Hull Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 At least the hot dog vendors can have a day off.

If the Sun had done research they would have been told that anyone can hire Alton Towers and then they would have had to find another story. I'm partly guilty for posting without checking the date I admit. Of course I'm speculating here but would love to know whether a Christian only event would be advertised as such
sphericalfox Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Would it be billed as a Christian Only event then? Alton Towers haven't called it anything. It's just another group, be it private or corporate who, with enough money, can hire the facilities. Nothing more nothing less. The Sun, in all it's racially shit stirring, have twisted something into something else. By quoting a customer who rang up Alton Towers to book on that specific date, which could have been booked to absolutely any corporate or private entity, and couldn't buy a ticket, it gets twisted into something it's not. Stu I thought you were brighter than all this shite.
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 I've just read the article and one line reads: "instead there will be prayer areas, Muslim stalls and all food served will be HALAL." No that isn't a typo, they literally used caps-lock and bold on the word 'halal' as if to suggest how shocking and horrifying the thought of such a basic religious custom is. If you're idea of journalism is mindless, bigoted crap then read the Sun chaps!

It's advertised in that way by Alton Towers though. I'm not trying to start an argument on something which, based on this topic, hadn't happened.

The Sun perhaps isn't the best paper to argue against yourself with given Hillsborough etc, but do you just rubbish every paper that challenges your views?
sphericalfox Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 It's advertised in that way by Alton Towers though. I'm not trying to start an argument on something which, based on this topic, hadn't happened. Read the article again Stu. Alton Towers will not be promoting this private booking.
Rincewind Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 I wonder if others were allowed in and told it was a no alcohol, no music and no pork day and respect those that had hired it how many non-Muslim would have ignored it? Would that young bloke had wanted to have a birthday bash with no booze? They did him a favour by saying sorry you will not like it if you want to get pissed. It's the Sun that made a big thing of it. I noticed the bold Halal as well. Does it matter? Halal is available in many places. As a non-Muslim I do not scoul local butchers for non-halal meat.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 June 2013 Author Posted 14 June 2013 Read the article again Stu. Alton Towers will not be promoting this private booking. OK I hear you. I jumped the gun slightly but Alton Towers said any organisation could hire the park for a day. A spokeswoman said We make no distinction regarding sexuality, religious, ethnic or lifestyle choices. She confirmed tickets for the day were now available only through Islamic Leisure. And Alton Towers would promote the fact that the day had been booked. She added: As a general rule, there will be no admission on the day to guests who have not booked through the organisation in advance. Anyway, its fair to say I feel a tit posting something 6 years old, so sorry! Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/54268/Muslim-only-Alton-Towers.html#ixzz2WDD5NWMG

It isn't actually Muslim only as such btw, it's just that Islamic traditions were to be carried out. I'd imagine it would be advertised as a Christian based event as people would have to be considerate of Christian traditions. The Sun perhaps isn't the best paper to argue against yourself with given Hillsborough etc, but do you just rubbish every paper that challenges your views? I think this is the only time I've ever rubbished a newspaper tbh. I admit I did exaggerate with my comment but come on, they highlighted the word Halal. That's just silly and unprofessional in my view. And while I have my thoughts on the Hillsborough disaster that doesn't mean I should accept the Sun who reported something vaguely comparable with my view. For example there are a few things Nigel Farage says that I agree with but that doesn't mean I'm going to vote for him.

Matt Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 2 threads at the top of general chat going about religion, racism causing argument, heated debate, arguably causing more racism and arguments in itself.....Wouldn't the world be a little more pieceful without all the myths?
