Rincewind Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 http://www.mydownnotout.org.uk/chelsea-legend-alan-hudson-hits-rock-bottom-in-homeless-hostel/ Not read it all yet. Same age as me. Don't know how he got to this. I suppose it's a case of never thinking it could happen to him so lived the good life when he had cash to throw around. Some may say it is his own fault but it ios also said that hindsight is a wonderful thing. In other non new baby news Pick the good from the bad if you wish. I don't want to start another thread. http://www.mydownnotout.org.uk/
MooseBreath Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Very hazy on why exactly he ended up in a hostel given that he owns a studio flat and gets over £700 a month in various benefits, but hey ho, I'm sure it's all perfectly legit and he's not just selling a false story to fund his alcoholism.
Charl91 Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 I would read this, but I'm too excited about the Royal Baby!
Rincewind Posted 26 July 2013 Author Posted 26 July 2013 I would read this, but I'm too excited about the Royal Baby! according to the media most people are.
purpleronnie Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Ken wouldnt you be best just making a homeless thread and posting all the stuff there?
Guest MattP Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Ken wouldnt you be best just making a homeless thread and posting all the stuff there? I put one up for him and it got deleted.
Rincewind Posted 26 July 2013 Author Posted 26 July 2013 Ken wouldnt you be best just making a homeless thread and posting all the stuff there? Maybe. I don't want another thread that descends into them and us. There are stories added daily to the DNO site so maybe just a daily link and if people want to read them or repost individual stories they can. Just read the Alan Hudson story. He came from thetime when football wages were not ridiculous. It seems bad that Chelsea brushed him to one side. Never knew about his accident and he never had any good wishes from the club. Not a lot went for him. The accident, his wife leaving, dodgy investment, ill son, repossession of house now in a hostel. No wonder he sought help in the bottle. He admits he was to blame for some things but circumstances did not favour him.

He admits he was to blame for some things but circumstances did not favour him. Chelsea didn't "brush him to one side". He stopped working for them so they stopped paying him. Employers aren't responsible for ex-employees. It's just a pathetic attempt to use Chelsea's wealth to drum up support by banging the rich vs poor drum. The reality is he pissed his life up the wall and has no-one to blame but himself. £700 a month in benefits and still not happy, still wants more by selling his sob story to the papers. He should be working hard to bring in money to look after his kids but instead he's down boozer sitting on a barstool necking vodka at ten in the morning. Fvck him. The guy is a cvnt.
Rincewind Posted 26 July 2013 Author Posted 26 July 2013 How can that ever be justified? Not justified but understandable in a way.. Doesn't make it right but it was the situation he was in at hard times so who knows what went through his head at the time? Someone said to him every time I see you you are in a bar and he replied that's strange because every time I see you its in a bar.
purpleronnie Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 I put one up for him and it got deleted. Typical you're always one step ahead of me.
Rincewind Posted 26 July 2013 Author Posted 26 July 2013 A lot of alcoholics use that line. A lot of alcoholics do not know they are alcoholics. Prefer to call it 'social drinking' I can handle it. 'What's wrong with a few pints with mates''I know when I've had enough.'
OzFox Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Used to watch Stoke a bit in the mid 70s when he was at his peak. Very classy player. He was well known as a bit of a pisshead even then though, so I'm not too surprised he's ended up this way
Rincewind Posted 26 July 2013 Author Posted 26 July 2013 Footballers today are a lot more aware and generally fitter. The higher earners are able to invest in good pensions and are insured well by their clubs. But I would imagine there are many in the lower divisions that struggle and have uncertain futures after football. I doubt players hit the bottle on a nightly basis now. For one thin it would show fitness wise on the pitch and managers would not stand for it. Or chairmen. Not with the top clubs paying 20 grand pw anyway/
DennisNedry Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 He only has himself to blame. Should've been sensible with his money.
Rincewind Posted 26 July 2013 Author Posted 26 July 2013 And being hit by a car was his fault? Being done over in a property investment was his fault? Footballers wages were not so good in those days and what young man in the limelight would not live it up. He has brought some of it on himself but should not be left to rot.
Rincewind Posted 26 July 2013 Author Posted 26 July 2013 yes and Chelsea FC forgot that when he was in hospital. I'm glad I had friends on here when I was ill. Thanks.

I'm not sure I would consider £700 in benefits per month being left to rot. Also, I don't see anything in the article to suggest he was 'done over'. Any investment is a risk. He obviously invested more than he could afford to lose, which is his own fault. There is no reason why his former employers should give him handouts to cover his mistakes.

There is no reason why his former employers should give him handouts to cover his mistakes. Players today get far more help and advice from within their clubs on financial issues, than in his day, when earnings were far, far lower than today.. I struck up a good friendship, through my job, with the late Vice Chairman of Wycombe Wanderers, who told me that players were looked after off the field in many ways. I used to get free match tickets off him, but always gave them away. Bless him, he died a few weeks ago.
johnny the fox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 What's chelsea doing for one of their legends?
Rincewind Posted 27 July 2013 Author Posted 27 July 2013 I'm sure when he invested in the overseas property he thought it was a good deal the same as investors in the RBS. How many house owners can be certain that their mortgage lenders will not go belly up. Unless you have a crystal ball even with a few hundred grand in the bank you still cannot be certain what the future holds
Rincewind Posted 27 July 2013 Author Posted 27 July 2013 What's chelsea doing for one of their legends? He does not fall into the catagory of a worthy legend. It took a few fans to speak out to get Keith Weller recognised by LCFC when it was announced that he was ill. People power.
MooseBreath Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 If you make a terrible investment you get what you get. The existence of risk is the reason for the potential reward.
