sphericalfox Posted 2 December 2013 Author Posted 2 December 2013 They were given the state monopoly on duty free during the premiership of Thaksin Shiniwatra (excuse spelling) and have continued to have the monopoly even though Siniwatra was forced out of office and disgraced. I doubt any change of government in Thailand (if it happens) will have any effect whatsoever. This was the answer to the question I posed. Thanks for a reasonable response. I don't think it was an overzealous question or reactionary in the slightest, but worthy of discussion.
separator Posted 2 December 2013 Posted 2 December 2013 Only just realised that the current Thai Prime Minister is actually the sister of the exiled former PM & Man City owner Thaksin Shinawatra. It was the military that overthrew Thaksin's government in 2006, this time the army are staying neutral (so far). These sort of political problems seem to crop up every year in Thailand, I'm sure it won't affect our owners. Probably got their dough stuck in some tax haven somewhere anyway.

They revere their king in Thailand above any politicians, and Vichai and Top have royal approval (received a new surname from him recently). Add to that over the last decade there have been several changes in government (some much more violent than this) that don't seem to have affected King Power's fortunes and I would say you are clutching at straws.
