Thai Problems

Anyone else concerned by the Thai protests? What effect would a change of government have on our owners wealth and Duty-Free monopoly?

It had crossed my mind but as we don't really know how 'connected' they are it's a bit pointless being concerned about it somewhat like if we don't get promoted and the whole team leaving but then who'd start a topic on that?

They don't sell it. But they do sell duty free kerplunk and duty free hungry hippos.

I'm not looking for something negative to talk about. I've raised this in a thread previously, I just couldn't find it.

It'll be interesting to know what the direct impact (if any) a change of government might have on their ability to invest, should we go up and if there's a shift in politics in Thailand.

I'm fairly certain they are aligned with one side, what that side is I don't know.

Statistics show that people are 62% more likely to buy giant Toblerones during a political crisis, so we should be okay.

Sorry wasn't meant to be a dig more so a dig at the What if every one leaves after we miss out on promotion thread.

Having said that it's difficult to have a view as I doubt anyone knows the true relationship and it's affect.

I would say the present government as there wealth has gone from 140mill to over a billion selling baccy and spirits in a couple of years.

If there is a problem they won't be here for long or will move here permanent PDQ.

I was in Malta last week when this all started kicking off and the only channel I could watch and understand in the hotel room was BBC World News, so I saw this and was fully expecting to come back to pages and pages of pointless conjecture. Can't believe it's taken until today.

They were given the state monopoly on duty free during the premiership of Thaksin Shiniwatra (excuse spelling) and have continued to have the monopoly even though Siniwatra was forced out of office and disgraced.

I doubt any change of government in Thailand (if it happens) will have any effect whatsoever.

Hasn't another club already been here?

Didn't Man City's previous owner suffer from the fall out of a Thai regime change, & his assets sized by incoming regime?

If anything does happen to our owners, hopefully our owners do the same

Sell to Arab billionaires

One thing you can be sure about with Asian governments, they always align themselves with the wealthy and give them a free reign.

This wouldnt affect us imo.
