Arriba Los Zorros Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 So this season, a lot of typical 'Leicester' weakness, that I can remember for donkeys years have been overturned: To name a few: Holding onto leads - been a major problem for as long as I can remember. But we've been able to hold out for a number of difficult one goal leads like today, vs Barnsley and Huddersfield and I now actually have some confidence that we can get a goal on the break rather than conceding Away form - The reason we're top is that we're backing up our excellent results at the KP fortress with finally taking some points away to keep the chasing pack at bay. Great stuff from Nige for adding steel whilst maintaining our free flowing play at home as its hard to keep the balance. Playing against defensive teams - we've shown we have the guile and persistance to break down those who come to park their buses as well as dismantle those who try to come at us and we always used to struggle with these, even last season. Lloyd firing and a variety of strikers chipping in with different styles is helping. Plus us getting a penalty pretty much every home game - cheers Vardy! Bogey teams - this season we've beaten a lot of those horrible teams who have had a jinx over us - Millwall twice now, Burnley, Reading, Ipswich, and QPR. Just need to make sure we do Charlton in home and I reckon we've done most of them! Dealing with pressure - this is one with a question mark over it. successive wins after beating QPR are a good sign but then again we also fell away last time we went top. This is what concerns me as if the team play in the second half of the season like they have in the first 23 games, we'll be up with 3/4 games to spare. Despite my last point these can only be a good omen of the side's increased mental strength to also go with a more rigid defence? I reckon we're well equipped for the rest of the season but being a City fan am not counting my chickens yet of course! You Foxes!
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 There just seems to be a greater air of confidence this season. We won a game today the type of which we would have lost last season. If we can continue to grind out results this season could just be the one.
fazzyfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 It certainly feels different this time round, the way we're keeping top spot and not wobbling at the moment and going to QPR, potentially the toughest fixture and winning. Confidence is a massive factor, you can't buy it and it's crucial, look at Vardy and Dyer, look at Drinkwater who passes forward more when he's confident and brings drive to the midfield. We can play a part in that, keep their chins up when they're behind (as has happened) or dare I suggest lose a couple of games. Right now we have momentum and the feel of a team that can boss the league, stride on and expand the daylight between us and 3rd. Some of the football has been outstanding which makes us expect that every time, teams will come for a point or try to niggle Knocky off his stride but the players seem a few inches taller this season with puffed out chests and chins held high. Long may it continue.
foxfanazer Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Very good post Another point is we seem to be taking control of games early and scoring the first goal

Only weak people feel pressure On a serious note, we seem much stronger thus far. However I'm reserving any real judgement till the end of February/mid March, I think where we are then and our performances will definitely impact where we'll finish.

Games like today we would have lost season but players like Hammond won't get bullied which has helped us.
