Rincewind Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 So if she didn't knowingly steal 13k it'd be ok? Obviously not because she was given community service.
absolutelegend Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Good job thay she has the safety net of our benefit system to fall back on when she lost her job for being a convicted theif. Oh rincewind...i assume your posts are tongue in cheek.
Mike Oxlong Posted 8 February 2014 Author Posted 8 February 2014 Actually, if she didn't know she wouldn't have been guilty as knowledge in the form of a guilty intent (mens rea) in combination with the act (actus reus) is a necessary component of the offence. So I think it's safe to say that this loot didn't accidentally fall into her handbag.

No. Her medical condition may not have been brought up at her trial so would not have been a consideration to determine her guilt or mitigating circumstances. I was not there so do not know what happened or how well her defence lawyer performed. but going from the outcome not perfect.

Or alternatively she actually committed the crime with which she was charged and her lawyer did a bloody good job to get her a community sentence.
Guest MattP Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 I think we've actually heard it all now. If she stole 13k it might be wrong but she might be poorly.
Rincewind Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Or alternatively she actually committed the crime with which she was charged and her lawyer did a bloody good job to get her a community sentence. True. Was thinking the same. Although I did look up the condition she says she has. A person can be OK for a couple of months then go into moods for a few days or longer. An employer would not be happy with an employee who had multiple days off because of it unless he knew about it and was understanding.
Guest MattP Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Feeling a bit down today, anyone fancy holding up a post office?
The People's Hero Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Looks like Oscar Pistorius' high profile defence team missed a trick in not consulting Rincey. Of course he shot her. He's got no legs. He was feeling a bit down. Jeez.
Rincewind Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 My sister has a friend whose partner has mood swings for months. When I was up there he chopped all the trees down in the garden because he could not see the road and he ignores his partner by not talking to her. She says when he comes out of them he regrets anything he did and keeps saying he doesn;t want them again. I don't know if it is the same thing or not. He has medicatian for it. It can be mild or severe for different people.

White Dee's lawyers would not have been so high class.

Rincewind Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 I'm saying no more on the subject. You lot have so much more superior knowledge. I'll let others take my place. A final quote from Bob Dylan. The times are achanging.'

Rincewind Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 About 101 things to do whilst sitting on the toilet?
halferowley2 Posted 23 February 2014 Posted 23 February 2014 The joke was about her asking her daughter why she wanted a job, instead of living off benefits like everyone else. Of course she wants her daughter to have a job. She isn't Mother Theresa, and me not calling her "a cure for rapists", doesn't mean I think she is amazing. Of course she could have refused, she wasn't coerced into it, but they approached her, it is not like a reality TV contestant, she didn't apply to be on the show and she didn't do it to become a celebrity. Finally on what basis does she do a disservice to those that rightly get benefits? Is she comitting benefit fraud? Does she not deserve her benefits? Lots of people who live on that street didn't appear on the programme so the few that did Im sure were very pleased to be TV 'stars' and playing up to the cameras, Im sure its the biggest event in their lives.
