The Doctor Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 I wonder what game is mathematically the earliest we could clinch it.... I can see us making hard work of it but doing it. I think about 7 games if we win them all and whoever is in second each match day loses. So Blackburn away
Dan Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Sheffield Wednesday will play a big part in our fortunes as they play Derby next Tuesday and QPR the week after. And ourselves away in April. I'm a bit iffy about that fixture. One of them sides we often slip up against when we really ought to not.
The Doctor Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 I think about 7 games if we win them all and whoever is in second each match day loses. So Blackburn away Yep, if we win our next 6, with QPR & Burnley losing them all, Forest and Derby beating Burnley and losing the other 5 then a win at Blackburn would see us be promoted on the 22nd March unless Derby beat Forest at home, in which case we'd lead by 27 points on Derby with 27 remaining to play for; That's the earliest possible to win promotion and would also see us win the title same day if Burnley were to lose, putting us 29 points clear of them in 2nd (if derby-forest ends a draw) Were forest to win that, we'd win the title and promotion still, by 28 points over forest who'd be in 2nd, and 29 points over Burnley in 3rd. That almost certainly won't happen, but mathematically it's the earliest possible game to win promotion.
sylofox Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Am I the only one that thinks we have one or two more games to worry about before this can happen. We could equally be in 7th place by then. Nothing like setting yourself up for a fall 13 games away what happened to taking one game at a time ffs.
Fox92 Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 I predicted a couple of weeks ago, and I ended up with it being around the QPR game. I am generally honest though, and I still stand by the fact that I'd take draws again the likes of Nottingham Forest and Wigan, for example, as we should have the ability to beat the Barnsley's, Yeovil's etc. I like all this predicting. Fair play I know last season will still be fresh in people's minds, including mine, but we are in a better situation at the minute and looking at the table it will take a massive massive mess up for us to not make the top 6. There's nothing wrong with a little excitement, although I'm still grounded personally and will be until we are pushing late February/early March.

People are taking one game at a time - just pointing out that this, given the positions, is one of the biggest games we've got when it comes to the idea of winning promotion. Still, are people not allowed to dream a tad? We've gone through 10 years since our last top flight spell, ten years of mostly dire shit: why can we not enjoy being top and dare to dream?
