How do you do that?

Which OS do you have?

I suggest taking a look at this site > HERE

I would get more RAM though if you can before changing the page file as its probably already set as the default recommended value!

Also, which web browser are you using? If its firefox then its most likely that there is an extension which is chewing up all the RAM and hence not releasing it. Best way to check is to right click the windows bar and go to Task Manager. Then click processes and sort by memory usage. See what your web browser is using and post here...you will be looking for something in the region of 100,000 - 200,000K depending on extensions etc!

You have a far higher opinion of my computer knowledge than I deserve.

My Firefox's down - can't get out of the offline mode. Neither restarting the browser nor the laptop have changed anything. Using Safari right now.

I'm mildly irritated.

Yeah it can be. But just make sure its set at the recommended level by windows. It should be that by default. You may want to check that Windows has actually noticed you have RAM installed (sorry if thats a bit patronising!)

From the sounds of it, it seems like its an issue with your browser more than anything and a memory hungry extension.

I don't understand !! I think I should just stick with what my settings are now cos I might mess it up if I change oat that I don't understand. If you can explain what the windows recommended thing is though I would appreciate it :D

Start > Right Click 'My Computer > Properties > Advanced > 'Settings' (This is the top one of three; in the 'Performance' section) > Advanced > Change button at the bottom > Tick the 'System Managed Size' circular option box > 'Set' > Ok > Press Ok on all of the other boxes > Restart computer

Problem solved. Apparently, for some odd reason, I had a tick next to "File">"Working Offline". Can't tell how it got there.

It wasn't me.

Check for any spyware etc that may be running. Doubt its that but always worth checking if a browser plays up unexpectedly! Sptbot Search and Destroy is a good tool to use!

A few things to try:

Try and update the drivers for your sound card. Depending on your OS which I'm assuming is Windows...Go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Right Click and select properties on your speakers/sound card under the Sound, Video, Game Controllers option. Select the Driver tab > and update driver. If that doesn't pick up anything and it says its already updated then your next step will be to contact the manufacturer of your speakers/laptop.

You could go straight to the manufacturer and see if they have anything on their support site. What is the make and model for your laptop??

Tried them. Downloaded and installed an update from the Packard Bell support site, but I'm still getting the stuttering. :(

It only happens with music as well. When I'm just listening to someone speaking the sound works fine.

EDIT: Hmmmmmmm, it also seems to be OK when I play stuff at about half the max volume or less...

Registry Editor

I've got a piece of software and every time I launch it I have to ok it twice with the Registry editor but even more annoying when I close it down I have to ok it 5 times.

I've looked at the registry editor facility and it appears to me it's an all or nothing piece of software/programme control.

Any ideas on how I can get rid of it or at least minimise it to once?

I've just cleared a load of junk off my computer to free up some space on the hard drive and now I can't get any sound. The light's on on the speakers so I don't think it's them. I'm guessing I must have disabled the sound some how. Any idea how to get it back please?

Which OS are you using? And can you give more info on the type of speakers/system etc. But here are a few things to try but will vary depending on if you use Vista or XP...

Go to Start > Control Panel > Sound and see if there are any devices there. If so, click configure and see if that does anything (probably won't but worth checking). Then click Properties and go through the tabs to see if there is anything that has been disabled/switched off. Notably, check if the audio out is disabled or not!

If that fails, then you may need to install/update your sound card driver in which case you need to go to Control Panel > Devices and under the sound and game controllers check to see if you Sound Card device is there. If so, right click > Properties > Driver tab and then select update driver. PM if you have any issue and I can run through it over MSN or something if you want!

I've tried all that to the best of my ability, no luck. Thanks anyway.

EDIT; I've just tried to play a CD on the computer and there was no sound on that either.

Glad you fixed it! I was gonna ask if they were plugged in and on but thought it may have been a little obvious!

I accidentaly my entire hard drive.

Can I get it back?

I take it you mean wiped? And I also take it that its not the one you are using at the moment? If so, then you can try with some HD recovery software. I don't know any good/free ones off hand but Google or downloads.com should do the trick or try going to a local computer shop to see if they can grab the data for you.

:giggle: Cheers for the reply mate, but it's a bit of an internet joke, and I was seeing if anyone was familiar with it.

No, that fact that there's no word between 'accidentaly' and 'my entire hard drive'.
