What is spyware? Do I need it? Is it included in my AVG free? Is there a good free version I can download?

No you don't want any spyware lol

 perhaps I mean anti-spyware or spyware removal software.

lol AVG is fine tbh but there are lots of good ones out. SpySweeper, SpyBot - Search & Destroy but MalwareBytes is best to just remove it if you get any.

Yes, do what DB11 said and get "Malwarebytes anti-malware" It's very good and free. You only need to use 'quick scan' not 'full scan'. Quick scan sorts it out every time and only takes 4 mins instead of an hour for full scan.

Unless you have lots of cookies and temporary internet files etc.

Run CCleaner before you run Malware Bytes and it reduces the time of both quick and long scan by a significant amount

I have been using Malware Bytes for a while now and I have noticed it has never picked anything up since the first scan I did dispite doing all the updates. Anyone else experiencing this?

Internet access on the move away from home through my laptop - How?

I seem to remember seeing a USB device that you pay a one off fee for which gives you a limited amount of access to the internet; which you can subsequently top up.

Any ideas on what this is and who does it?

Doesn't seem a lot for £15.

You get 3GBs for £15 / month which is 2 hours browsing/day

The 1GB is for the £7.50/week tariff.

I might be wrong, but I think using sites similar to foxestalk will hardly eat into that allowance. Sites like youtube etc obv will.

Do PC problems ever go away?

Today's problem.

I've just tried to do my monthly back up onto an external drive which I've managed to do without incident for months now and it keeps failing with the following message.

"The backup target drive G:\ failed with the following error:

The backup disk has a corrupted file system. Fix it using the disk error check tool, or choose a different backup location. (0x81000008)"

So where do I find a disk error checking tool?

The drive seems to be working ok otherwise!

Try formating the disk and putting your stuff back on.

Thanks for the thought but I've got too much on there at the moment I'd probably have to buy a new external hard drive to do it :o Cant' really afford that at the moment.
