Williams!

Not as bad as some people were saying. He's not worth the same as Connolly though, on past performance.

Let's hope he can prove his worth over the next few games - I just hope fans don't get on his back.

Posted

No-one should get on his back, there's not alot a player of Williams stature can do when your defenders are hoofing the ball over your head the whole time. Look at Izzet last season, he was absent in most games due to the style of play we installed. He relied on scraps from the opposition coming forward and set pieces, a shocking demise to a player who was one of the premierships best midfielders. It's the style of play as much to blame in my opinion. When was the last time we put a cross in aswell?

£500,000 plus another £100,000 should we get promoted and also a 15% sell on clause.

He's not worth that but it could of been alot higher.

Beleve me on recent performances he is overpriced at this !!!

So if we go up, it will be £600K overall. Those twats should have accepted our £750K offer we offered them a while back!

You never offered £750k. You offered 75k and then made a final offer of £250k. The £750k came from Joe Kinnear who was spouting his usual bullshit to try to talk up Williams' value.

£600k seems fair to me even if you lot think he's got a way to go to justify even that price tag.

Good luck and see you in December!

I wish you stupid people up that way would stop being hypocrites over any money issues we have had in the past.

Your lot aren't exactly angels in financial dealings are they?

And anyways, whatever you might think of us being in administration,it was the only to restructure our debts and at least we NEVER had the cheek to refuse to pay one of our debts like you have with the City council!Just so you could try and get a longer repayment package sorted out.You might as well have been put in admin for they your lot are carrying on! <_<

A lot of truth in what you say. Some Forest fans just can't get over Leicester getting promoted post-administration. Although I must point out that Forest didn't so much refuse to pay the Council debt - they simply couldn't pay it at that time on those terms, just as LCFC couldn't pay Eric Hall when he came knocking. But yes, Forest are far from whiter than white financially.

Back on topic, has Williams really been that bad for you lot so far? It seemed as though he had turned the corner at the end of last season, but by the sounds of it he has slipped back into his rubbishy, gutless old ways/

I think he needs to have someone alongside him with a bit of grit.

Him and Nalis together isn't working. But comparing the two,I would've played Nalis instead, just judging by performances so far.

We did everything by the book re:admin. which we were forced into by Eric Hall trying to get money out of us for something which was never pursued afterwards.I just think he and wise did it deliberately just to see if they could bring a club down.

It isn't about football anymore,we all know it's business now and legally the club did everything they were told to by the administrators-not as some media hacks says we did what we liked. We had to follow strict procedures or we would never have been allowed out of admin. It's all well and good other football fans thinking that we 'cheated' our way out of the division, but really the football side just carried on as normal and it was them who got promotion not the people in charge.

It isn't Williams fault mate, what can a player do when the ball just bypasses him all the time, it's the same with most central midfielders at this club. Granted, they need to get more involved to win the ball but the whole idea of utilising your centre midfielders more is to pass it about more and involve them in making your attacks against the opposition. Williams has the talent it's there to see, we need to play to our players strengths.

Although I have no disagreement with the sentiments of your statement about hoofing bypassing the midfield I don't think with Williams it was that simple. Gemmil, who the majority wondered why he was being signed did more in his 30 minutes than Williams did in 90. For a start he went looking for the ball, he was calling for it, he was running in to openings to be available for it. Aside from the first 5 minutes I never saw any of that from Williams. He is maybe skillful he seems to have a good touch but we've seen very little of it. He also looked like he'd preferred to be somewhere else (forest maybe <_< ).

Also on the hoofing, defenders in general will hoof it if there is no-one free to take the ball from them, the mid-field have to take responsiibility for that and create space for themselves, the defenders also need to be confident they are good/strong enough to retain it otherwise if it leads to a goal the defender not the midfielder will get the blame.

Ok Williams most certainly hasn't shown that he's worth too much, bearing in mind the fee is intended to cover development costs of the player then I think it's probably fair. That's why they're are all pretty much the same.

i.e.

Gareth Williams (transferred from Nottm Forest to Leicester)

£500,000 fee

Plus £100,000 if promoted

Plus 15% sell on

Kris Commons (transferred from Stoke City to Nottm Forest)

£300,000 fee

Plus £50,000 payable on 25, 50 and 75 appearances.

Plus £50,000 if promoted

Plus 15% sell on

What will really make the difference is the sell on fee, that will be determined by whether they realise the potential that the respective clubs/managers see in the players.

If you were banking on the Williams fee to boost your transfer coffers, then you'll be disappointed with the £200,000k difference.

Your two major summer signings were Andy Impey and Alan Rogers - Need I say more?

As for Williams - I stated in the other thread I couldn't see the fee being more than 600k. Forest look a bit silly with their £3 Million asking price now. (Although we all know that wasn't going to happen anyway)

Paul Gerrard? He's not a patch on Ian Walker who has been reguarly in the England squad - Has Gerrard achieved that? Thankyou please!

Commons and James - Hardly household names.

Forest would love to have the likes of Keown and Dublin in their squad. Certainly much better options than Des Walker and Gareth Taylor respectively.

We have one of the best strikers in the league in David Connolly.

Danny Tiatto is also an excellent player at this level as proved at Manchester City.

As for you - Andy Impey and Alan Rogers are major players for you - They are our rejects who we wanted to get rid - What does that say about you?

You also missed off Connolly, Gudjonsson, Williams, Tiatto and Makin mate! All five would walk in to Forest's team. And if you want to talk about old players what about your tail between your legs plea for Dez 'i've fell asleep' Walker to come out of retirement to play again for you! Comedy.
