Fox92 Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Not sure about damage but I do feel we have too many in the Premier League. Too much money involved in the division, too.
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z9wjq6f Series of articles covering State of the Game The main concerns Enriching Imports How good are England anyway An English case study Vote - Do foreign players damage the Premier League? Where next 136 English players played last season, we need 23 for the national team. If there are young English players better than those 136 they will prove themselves given time. It's a non issue, even if the big clubs miss the potential in young players and release them having not given them a chance they will get a chance in the Championship/lower down where they will have the chance to prove themselves. Meanwhile the ones that do breakthrough and play most weeks get to play in one of the best leagues in the world. As I've said plenty of times before on here the whole thing is an utter myth.
babylad92 Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 This was a very entertaining read. I cannot confirm my stance on your question, but I can certainly say there is less time on the pitch for English players in the Premier League. In turn, this affects our international prospects. Edit: In fact, I can confirm my stance on your question. Foreign players are not damaging the Premier League. This is common sense - English teams bring in foreign players if they add quality. What this trend is damaging is the Three Lions. You may want to consider petitioning to the moderators to change your title.
Buzzell Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 We do need to see more englosh players in the game.
Captain... Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 Just read about Scott Sinclair looking for a January transfer, perfect example of English players going backwards in their development due to cheaper and better foreign imports.
Vicki Vixen Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 As a club, I'd say we've been more damaged by foreign managers than by foreign players in recent years. Eriksson, Sousa and Levein all come to mind. Most of the trouble we've had with players - both in terms of attitude and quality - have come from English players. We've invested more than most clubs in giving English players a chance to shine. Some of those investments you win...and some you lose http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/11616273.Jermaine_Beckford_axed_at_Wanderers/
Stadt Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 We had a league full of British players for over a century and only won one World Cup
The God Emperor Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 I agree with Robbie Savage on this issue. The whole issue is a crutch used to excuse poor coaching/work ethic/attitude/talent etc.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 It's better to have 50 quality Englishmen in the Premier League than to have 100 decent Englishmen. We only need 11 for a team and 23 for a squad.
