For anyone that had been following St Etienne, where did it all go wrong? Did Puel contibute to the decline or was he joining a poisoned chalice? It seemed to me that he was fighting the tide when he was there but i've not really paid a huge amount of attention to them, I know they have a record of selling their best players and then pretty much refusing to spend anything, so how did they get to this point?

Hard to say from the outside

 

poorly run club 

 

currently though they sit 2nd in the table and hopefully have a good chance of coming back up to Ligue 1

St Etienne won the div 2 play off final and now play Metz to see who will play in League 1 next season

Saint-Etienne drew 2-2 at 10-man Metz to win promotion back to the French first division on Sunday, with substitute Ibrahima Wadji scoring the decisive goal deep into extra time for a 4-3 aggregate score
