Floridafox Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 It struck me that there are striking similarities between England's 2014 World Cup Campaign and City's Premier League 14/15 efforts - Everyone around England played down expectations going into the World Cup; just a good showing would be enough. Very difficult group to get out of. Small fish, big pond, etc. Same with City, just surviving would be enough - Quietly we thought England could still sneak into the quarter finals. Quietly we thought City could finish around midtable - England, due to a combination of naive defending, constantly changing formations, actually conspire to sink to a level beneath that of 'low expectations', same with Leicester - The inevitable dismissal of Hodgson somehow doesn't happen, same with Pearson Here's the positive. Since the debacle of Brazil 14 England sit comfortably at the top of the Championship with a 100% record, showing flashes of quality not seen last summer and look like they'll come straight back up to the Premier League Yeah, I know the parallels only go so far but it makes me realize why I feel doubly depressed football-wise. At least now we can concentrate on the Cup
Mark_w Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 I enjoyed the 210 World Cup much more. Edit: Well this doesn't make sense now you've edited the title. Boo.
Fox92 Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 I didn't think we'd sneak into the quater finals with Hodgson in charge.
ADK Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Also the cricket world cup. Both teams have a useless captain called Morgan.
StanSP Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 'inevitable dismissal of Hodgson doesn't happen' They weren't ever gonna sack him during a World Cup . 'at least we can now concentrate on the Cup' why not concentrate on League AND Cup. Hate the way people are totally writing off our season despite not being relegated yet and points-wise, far from it.
Dan Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 To be honest if I was to liken this season to the World Cup then it would mean I expected us to go down in 18th, but ended up finishing 20th by an absolute mile. I had no expectation what so ever of England in the World Cup yet still felt absolutely embarrassed by what happened.
Finn Claw II Posted 15 February 2015 Posted 15 February 2015 England didn't lose their best players after WC failure. We will
