C-man Posted 10 March 2015 Share Posted 10 March 2015 The problem is not the objects, the problem is them being thrown. Why are they thrown? Because people can't let them off and then take responsibility for monitoring them because they will be done by the police for accepting responsibility for the flare/smoke bomb. This means they are then thrown because the person setting them off doesn't want to be caught or because they end up near someone who has nothing to do with it and they panic. The law results in the throwing which results in the danger. Absolutely correct. And because the law is proving completely ineffective - the presence of a crowd gives a high degree of protection against prosecution and those that bring in intending to drop/throw them know that - the authorities MUST think of another way of dealing with them. DB11 Posted 10 March 2015 Share Posted 10 March 2015 A fan was killed by a firework at Cardiff in the 90s and one reason it's rare is because they are banned. And what about when Wolves used to let fireworks off before the game but then one hit a fan? The practice was promptly stopped then. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/2426066/Football-fan-hit-in-face-by-firework.html

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 12 March 2015 Share Posted 12 March 2015 Any object can cause injury when chucked about by idiots. Bins are necessary if you don't want to be wading through a tonne of rubbish at the ground, flares etc serve no real purpose other than a few little kids going "ooooh a bit of smoke, how ultra". Well said Babble-on.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 March 2015 Share Posted 14 March 2015 We took some for Watford at home one Friday night two years ago. Lost so didn't set them off. Drunkenly thought it'd be funny to set them off on the dance floor of the local bar/nightclub instead. They give out one hell of a lot of smoke lol

pleatout Posted 14 March 2015 Share Posted 14 March 2015 This point has probably been made before. Pyrotechnics are banned including smoke bombs. Ok, so we allow smoke bombs in the ground. A couple of points. How are stewards supposed to weed out the smoke bombs from the fireworks? The fireworks from a distress flare? When 20,000 people bring them for a "big game". ANd yes there will be some tw*t that thinks that letting a distress flare off in a football ground is a good idea [and killing someone in the process. We play in blue and use blue smoke bombs. Other clubs play in white. One of our fans set off a smoke bomb on the concourse at Villa. Can anyone see a issue with a Derby/Spurs/Bolton/Preston fan doing the same and white smoke pouring out of one of the vomitories at the KP? If you don't understand why smoke and pyrotechnics have no place at a football match go to youtube and enter Bradford Fire. I'm old enough to remember what a fire at a football ground looks like & what panic amongst innocent football fans looks like. Just a bit of fun, how much harm can it do,blah blah blah. 56 at Bradford and 96 at Hillsborough are 56 and 96 too many. Just grow up.
pleatout Posted 14 March 2015 Share Posted 14 March 2015 Bins have caused more deaths at UK grounds than pyrotechnics When we gonna ban them? http://www.theguardian.com/football/2011/apr/07/death-by-misadventure-blackburn-fan See Wales v Romania 1993
