Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 April 2014 Share Posted 8 April 2014 Anybody a fan of his musical work? Went to see him at the Rescue Rooms last night and it was quite a show. His current touring band includes former Bluetones singer Mark Morriss (as seen in the vid below) and some other frankly shit hot musicians. Even bearing in mind some dangerous forays into prog rock, funk and even jazz (including an astonishing bass solo), it remained brilliant throughout, and when your set ends with a glorious singalong cover of SOS by Abba, one has to ask what's not to like? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLLhqE37KKE One of those gigs where nearly everyone leaves with a smile on their face. hairy Posted 8 April 2014 Share Posted 8 April 2014 I have listened to a couple of tracks before and cannot work out if its a piss take. When you see album covers like this it screams piss take.

Bellend Sebastian Posted 9 April 2014 Author Share Posted 9 April 2014 I have listened to a couple of tracks before and cannot work out if its a piss take. When you see album covers like this it screams piss take. That's a great album! It's fair to say that there is an element of humour in there (not surprising given his day job), but far too much effort has gone into it all for it to be a total pisstake. People spit at me when I say I like the Darkness, but they're another example of a turn that has a laugh without the whole thing being a joke. I've got Witchhazel and Opium, needless to say they are ****ing bonkers but musically accomplished. I don't actually have Opium but I'm pleased to find that you can now get in on download, so may well invest in that very soon. Kill The Wolf, which came out last year, is really good. It's probably a bit more serious than Witchazel (no pheasants on the cover for starters) but there is a 9 minute song about the winter solstice, so we remain firmly in fairly bonkers territory. I loved Snuffbox; one bloke shouted 'Whiskey' at the gig on Monday and got short shrift. Matt Berry is apparently a very nice bloke though. My friend got him to sign my ticket while I went for a wee and he was 'lovely'
Lionator Posted 16 April 2014 Share Posted 16 April 2014 Incidentally, Mark Morriss is playing the Donkey on the 26th.
