She's got a good voice and they're lively. 7/10 The Courteeners - Not Nineteen Forever Heard it all before. 4/10 The Rumble Strips - Girls and Boys in Love I'm biased against these. Saw them as part of an NME tour night at the Roadmender and they were awful, headlining ahead of Pull Tiger Tail and Blood Red Shoes who were both fantastic. I thought these were dull as ditchwater in comparison. This is a decent remix but I just don't like them. 4/10 Lightspeed Champion - Stay The Fuck Away From Me Yawn. This is awful. 1/10 Emmy The Great - 24 (live) This is more interesting. Decent voice and the guitar is good. Probably wouldn't choose to listen to it but it's something a bit different. 6/10 Vampire Weekend - Oxford Comma Bit lightweight for my liking but it's okay. 5/10 Los Campesinos! I like these. Saw them live at Sheffield Uni last October and it was the perfect music to celebrate our 2-0 win over Barnsley that afternoon, quickly getting drunk while dancing round in circles like an idiot. 8/10 The Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses I like these too. Out of all the similar-sounding indie bands that surfaced a year or two ago, these have something a bit more over the others - namely a singer with a fantastic voice. 8/10 Mystery Jets - Young Love I like these too. We've hit a rich vein of form here. 7/10 Black Kids - Hit The Heartbreaks Lazy comparison perhaps but reminds me of Arcade Fire. Mainly his voice so I assume they're either Canadian or they've been listening to a lot of that sort of thing. 6/10 The Teenagers - Starlett Johansson The distortion reminds me a bit of Smash It Up by the (I)NC. Not as good as that though. 6/10 Cut Copy - So Haunted I had a Cut Copy single once and it was really good. I think it was called Future. Not sure. This is interesting. 7/10 Crystal Castles - Bitter Hearts And we're back to "Day Glo Rave". 6/10 Girl Talk - Bounce That Just listen to the songs sampled. This is some kind of joke surely? 0/10 Dan Le Sac v Scroobius Pip - Fixed I'd rather listen to Fix Up Look Sharp. 3/10 Estelle - American Boy This is number 1 isn't it? I haven't looked at the charts for years. I hate Kanye West but this is really good. Estelle has a great voice and this has a good crossover feel to it between French house and Joe Jackson. Great stuff. I can imagine getting a bit bored of it by the end of the summer but this is the first time I've heard it so... 9/10 Devin The Dude - What A Job I like this. Takes me back to the summer of 2003. 8/10 R Kelly v Broken Social Scene - I'm A Flirt I hate R Kelly so I don't care how tenuous his involvement in this is. Shame cos it's a pretty good idea but hearing him makes me want to die. 1/10 Lethal Bizzle ft Kate Nash - Look What You Done I'm going to pretend I never heard this. The rest of their album is pretty good though Girl Talk - Bounce That Dan Le Sac v Scroobius Pip & Devin The Dude Estelle - American Boy Noooo, one of those songs I've heard every day for the past 2 months, I just couldn't do it again. R Kelly v Broken Social Scene - I'm A Flirt Broken Social Scene - great, this song is messsed up though. Lethal Bizzle ft Kate Nash - Look What You Done No. 21 songs a bit much really, didn't really flow and some of the songs didn't really fit in but that's probably me being picky. Overall 3/10. Hadouken- Get Smashed Gatecrash Love Hadouken so this is a great way to start for me, and I'd heard this song before a couple of times. Therefore I very much like this song. 8/10 2. These New Puritans- Colours Pffft, ddn't think a great deal to this one. Didn't keep my attention either. 5/10 3. Be Your Own Pet- Heart Throb Sorry, hated it and didn't even get to the end. Singer's voice extremely annoying and not a lot going on musically. 1/10 4. The Courteeners- Not Nineteen Forever Like the Courteeners a lot so didn't surprise me to like this song. Nothing particularly special but a steady tune. 7/10 5. Rumble Strips- Girls and Boys In Love These are a band I've been meaning to listen to for ages now and have just kept forgetting to so thanks for this. As for the song, I quite liked it, I'll definitely look at some more Rumble Strips stuff after hearing this. 7/10 6. Lightspeed Champion- Stay The fook Away From Me Yeah not too bad, lyrics ruin it really and are shit but hey. 'Tell Me What It's Worth" is better than this easy. 5/10 7. Emmy The Great- 24 Hmmm not bad this, but not great either. A bit too boring and dull for my liking but it's certainly listenable. But the guitar is good. 4/10 8. Vampire Weekend- Oxford Comma A bit diluted really, not got any great spark to it but again, it's still probably worth a listen every now and again. 5/10 9. Los Campesinos!- The International Tweexcore Underground Yes, love this band. I like this song, it's good fun like most Los Campesinos! is. Good stuff. 8/10 10. Maccabees- Toothpaste Kisses Love this band, and love the album so this song was nothing new. But nonetheless glad it's on here still. 8/10 11. Mystery Jets- Young Love Yeah I liked this one, nothing too exceptional but still fairly pleasing. 6/10 12. Black Kids- Hit The Heartbreaks Lacks a bit of something to make it a good song for me. Be Your Own Pet - Heart Throb This reminds me of someone. Being old it means that that name won't come to me for about a week and a half. It was a band around 1990 and a singer of more recent vintage. This is alright though, although I wonder how much of that is down to what proceeded it. The Courteeners - Not Nineteen Forever Oh Christ. This is dreadful. The Rumble Strips - Girls and Boys in Love I'm beginning to have the distinct feeling I am not really going to find anything in this compilation. Lightspeed Champion - Stay The Fuck Away From Me What the shitting hell is this? I used to be inundated with crap from local Northampton bands when I freelanced for their pop page and the other rags...this song makes every local Northampton band sound decent. And they ****ing weren't. Emmy The Great - 24 (live) This is another local band, isn't it? Another shite local band. Vampire Weekend - Oxford Comma No Los Campesinos! I can't take this much more, I really can't. I've got to the stage where I'm fast-forwarding within seconds of the tracks starting. The Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses Formulaic, but we're 45 seconds in and I haven't fast-forwarded. A result for the Maccabees. I'd never buy anything by them. Mystery Jets - Young Love Next... Not fantastic though and got worse as it went. A minute too long. 6/10. These New Puritans - Colours I've downloaded this album a few days ago so I was interested to here this. His voice isn't fantastic but it's not awful either. This song's only really passable though. 6/10 Be Your Own Pet - Heart Throb Didn't like it first but I left it on and it got a bit better and I got used to it. 6/10 The Courteeners - Not Nineteen Forever Ouch, Zzzzz. 4/10 The Rumble Strips - Girls and Boys in Love Was going to skip but the bottom filled out and I'm interested again. Most interesting so far, certainly. Vaguely chilled, I'd listen again. 7.5/10 Lightspeed Champion - Stay The Fuck Away From Me Can't sing in tune. Skipped. Very little in this for me to like to be honest, just thought it was generally quite poor 3/10 14. Cut Copy- So Haunted Sorry, just a bit too montotone and dull throughout for me. Didn't particularly like it 5/10 15. Crystal Castles- Bitter Hearts Ahh this is better, I liked this one, I'd listen again probably. Slightly repetetive but hey 6.5/10 16. Girl Talk- Bounce That Yeah this one wasn't bad either, quite enjoyed it. Bit of a change from the other stuff which was also good. 7/10 17. Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip- Fixed Now before listening to this I expected to hate it. And I was semi-right. Quite poor, but not so bad it was unlistenable. 5/10 18. Estelle ft. Kanye West Now this is better. I liked this song as soon as I heard it on the radio and eventually its made its way to number one. 9/10 19. Devin The Dude- What a Job This one shall be nicely kept in the itunes library, thanks. Probably a minute too long but still good 7/10 20. Rob Kelly vs Broken Social Scene- I'm a Flirt Ok I can take R.Kelly sometimes but this just didn't work for me. 5/10 21. Lethal Bizzle ft. Kate Nash- Look What You Done Really didn't know wat to expect with this one at all.
