Just interested to see how the HD landscape lies. I don't even own a HD TV, but I'm interested to know how this format war is taking shape!

I don't see what blu-ray offers over DVD. DVD was a big improvement over VHS because of chapters and better sound quality but I can't really see what blu-ray is offering over DVD as a media format.

The same that HD TV is offering over regular TV.

I'd say that was a pretty lefty comment to be honest.

Not where I come from, lefties love Chavs and giving them 'our' tax money. Righties think they should all be conscripted into the Army!?

Typical Tory.

Thinks he can monopolise the right-wing now he's lost all the centre ground.

Well, look out Mister - now we've got the centre-right we are coming for the Monster-Raving-Tebbit side of the political ground too :D

I don't think anyone 'loves' giving them tax money but accept that it is nessacary to look after members of our society. I'm sure everyone would rather that we were all working and contributing society. What a lot of the right wing idiots tend to overlook is that the idea 100% employment is fundamental to left wing ideas being succesful.

I have a HD ready tv (only because my normal one conked out and we usually keep things until they break, not just buy things for the sake of it)

Will get a PS3 at christmas I think...

Out of the 4 people (so far) who own these HD players, why aren't you buying the HD videos??

TDK debuts mini Blu-ray discs

2 August 2007 20:13

TDK debuts mini Blu-ray discsTDK, partners of the optical disc maker Imation, have introduced the first recordable mini Blu-ray discs. The discs make their debut in conjunction with Hitachi's mini Blu-ray recordable camcorder.

The 3-inch discs can store 7.5GB of data on a single layer which is far more than the 4.36GB of data a single layer standard DVD-5 can hold. The single layer mini discs can hold up to one hour of widescreen 1080i video.

TDK also claims the discs are almost completely scratch-proof, due to its use of DURABIS protective coating.

The discs can be loading into any tray loading standalone or computer Blu-ray drive but will be expensive. A single disc will run you $25 USD or $35 for a rewritable version.

The discs will be available for sale in September, one month before the camcorders.

Mini-Bloo's coming...Toshiba are releasing their 3rd Gen HD DVD players next month...before you know it there'll be an even better/faster/larger/cheaper alternative ~ or maybe three.

HD is awesome - obviously though, if you buy a HD Ready TV you'll have to get SkyHD (an extra £10 a month on your subscription) to get the most from your TV. The picture quality is superb, especially the landscape/cityscape/animals and wildlife scenes. You can easily notice the difference, especially when you switch back to non-HD channels.

I don't have a HD-DVD/Blue Ray Player as they are too expensive at the moment.
