Who are the Trialists?

Leicester City boss Ian Holloway has told his players to "stand up and be counted" after reading them the riot act following Saturday's dismal defeat at Hull.

Bitterly dismayed at the manner of the 2-0 setback at the KC Stadium, Holloway had a post-match showdown with his players.

He said: "I told every single one of them what I thought about them to their face, not just that performance but since I have been here.

"That is the bare-faced honesty I will give my players and that is what I expect from my team.

"Players I have worked with in the past and moved on for a lot of money know what I am about. These players don't yet, but they know me a bit more after this.

"It is very important everyone knows where they stand and, if you have thoughts in your mind about people and you don't share them, then you are being false.

"They have got no strength, no structure to fall back on and, apart from the young ones, I made them stand up, anyone who had played 100 games in fact, and told them that it was totally unacceptable."

Holloway, who has three trialists arriving at the club today, added: "What the players have had since I came here is to show me what they can do, and unfortunately some of them have not shown me what I want to see.

"They know it but they must now stand up and be counted if they want to work with a bloke like myself who has told them exactly what he thinks, to their face, nothing to hide.

"Then I will stand back and see what they will give me because, at the minute, none of them have been doing it for real.

"At least they know what I think of them. Let's see if they can handle it. They are the ones who will miss out, not me.

"I have got three trialists coming in, we are putting offers in for players and if this carries on I will have to put offers in for even more because it is worse than I thought.

"Some of those people won't be here if they carry on like that. If they want to change and respond to what I have said, they might have a chance because I never close the door on anybody, but that performance was unacceptable.

"From the time I came in to the job, I was going to assess who I wanted to keep and who I didn't and work with it.

"I think it is fair to say that that lot I have got in the dressing room know how I feel, they know what I am like, what I want, what I will accept and what I won't, and they will have to be more like that themselves.

"In any walk of life you have to have some sort of morale, some sort of spirit and togetherness in any organisation, and we looked as if we are devoid of any.

"I have another three games before the (transfer) window opens, so they will have other opportunities. They understand what I sense the problems are and what I intend to do about it, and they will have every chance to change their ways."

Holloway believes there is a "bottoming-out" stage - from where the only way is up - in any building process. Is this it for City?

He said: "I hope so. I have never seen anything like that (at Hull) from any of my teams, and it just shows me more of what I need.

"It is amazing what one or two new players make to a dressing room and a bit of honesty as well. I don't think any of them wants to do poorly, it is just a balance of experience and character.

"We have to do something about it and it is nothing a few good players, hand-picked, good characters walking in the door, would not help. Nothing has a better effect than that."

Ollie mentions 3 trialists, any idea who they are?

I presume that the players he mentions he made bids for are Norris & hayles??

EDIT : Apologies MODS, just seen this thread in the Transfers.... Please Delete!!!!!

Not really, just wondering if it is possible to lower the mood any further!

Merry Christmas.

It was possible...

:D

If they are Trialists (whoever they are) and they are without a contract, can we sign them before the transfer window opens? Just a thought?

sorry to disappoint but Babayaro was only released from his contract at Newcastle last week and free agents can only be signed outside the transfer window if they were without a club at the start of the window which Babayaro wasn't

also conceicao hasn't had a club since summer 2006 so would be horribly unfit and at his age just a short term measure..he would only be worth signing to try and attract some new fans; he wouldn't improve things on the pitch IMO

a 33 year old who hasn't played any competitive football for 18 months; I'm deadly serious! that's not the kind of player I want to see at this club.

I'd rather see game time given to some of the academy boys than some unfit has-been!
