Joe. Posted 17 September 2010 Posted 17 September 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/8986321.stm Nice article here. Basically Borussia Dortmund fans are boycotting their match against Schalke because ticket prices have risen from 13.50 euro to 22 euros (£19) for the same match the next season. Says that 1,500 Dortmund fans have returned their tickets, with over 300 supporters' groups taking part in the boycott. Now imagine Liverpool or Man United fans doing the same - they'll be paying £51 for the privilege of watching their match this weekend. The thought of Premier League bosses in fits of agony at the sight of an empty Old Trafford is extremely amusing. But sadly we all know that won't happen. Brilliant stand of action though, just goes to show that fan power still has its place. But that's the German fans' mentality, and long may it continue.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 17 September 2010 Posted 17 September 2010 Would be amazing if boycotts could be organised in this country, but if 20,000 people decided not to go to the united game on sunday, 20,000 more people would be willing to pay
Finchy Posted 17 September 2010 Posted 17 September 2010 Would be amazing if boycotts could be organised in this country Erm actually i'm pretty sure Cov have been doing that since about 2005.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 17 September 2010 Posted 17 September 2010 Erm actually i'm pretty sure Cov have been doing that since about 2005. Respect to Cov! I suppose we have 10,000 fans who are boycotting right now till we get back in the prem
MPH Posted 17 September 2010 Posted 17 September 2010 Erm actually i'm pretty sure Cov have been doing that since about 2005. 1950
Tommeh Posted 17 September 2010 Posted 17 September 2010 Fair fucks to them. Everyone who attends a match in English football affectively hands over their ticket and MUG in big black ink is stamped on their forehead
Samilktray Posted 17 September 2010 Posted 17 September 2010 £19 for top flight football between 2 good sides? That is tight as fuck
Guest DavidJCW Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 £19... is that it? To get to watch two of the best teams in the league!?! You'd have to pay possibly triple that here! However, it's a fair enough move and well done to them for getting it to work i.e. many fans doing it, it's not exactly certain anything will come of it yet.
potter3 Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 £19... is that it? To get to watch two of the best teams in the league!?! You'd have to pay possibly triple that here! Maybe if people had refused to pay £19 here then we wouldn't have to pay 50 quid to watch a Premier League game now.
C-man Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 £19 for a standing place is a joke in the scheme of things in Germany. Dortmund fans only had to shell out around £11 last year for the same fixture and the only reason the prices have gone up are to cover Schalke's spending spree this summer. People can shout 'tight' all they like, I just wish people were brave enough to do the same here 18 years ago so we don't have to shell out £70 a pop (Spurs charging Liverpool) nowadays. I was considering going to see Schalke-Koln in a local derby on the weekend before Christmas but I think I'll go somewhere else, MSV Duisburg or RW Oberhausen perhaps.
Jay Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 it seems just about everything about German football currently is what I want from the game in this country! It's just a shame it's gone to far in this country, we have lost the game for the fans, it's no longer about those that pay on the gate anymore and that's really sad, we have lost the game and will never get it back we are just to far down the line now.
poopbutt Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 11 pound for that same fixture last season is mad!
dandannieldanok Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 £19 for top flight football between 2 good sides? That is tight as fuck It is totally tight, and I don't see what is so commendable about them boycotting the game. Just seems totally petty, those boycotting the game will probably end up going shopping somewhere to fill their time and spend £19 anyway. It's a petulant reaction from the fans, they should be grateful for those prices. Things go up in price as time goes on whether it be a football ticket or a loaf of bread, it's natural inflation, they're acting like spoilt children.

Natural inflation isn't 6 quid in 1 year, the fans who are organizing this are from fan groups so i will bet they wont be going shopping, like someone else said, if fans had boycotted when prices were 19 quid in this country then maybe we wouldn't be paying 30 quid for a second division game right now and the reason this will work in Germany is because the fans are organised
Fosse Boy Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 Anyone disagreeing with what they're doing, and I shan't mince my words here, is a complete fucktard who represents everything wrong with the game in this country. "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way". Damn straight.
Tilley Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 Why are they a fucktard?! NINETEEN POUNDS for a ticket is a very reasonable price.

If us English supporters would have done this when prices started to hit £20 and £30 10 or 5 years years ago then would we be seeing £40 as a norm price for every prem ground? would we fuck. The German institutions and fans are simply learning from the English games mistakes.

I keep hearing football in Germany is amazing, so is £19 really that much to pay for a stunning experience? If things like this carry on, and clubs are forced to drag prices to rock bottom to get fans in, then the quality of players and football in Germany will end up dropping to a low level, and I guarantee the fans will start moaning if they've got a shit team. Anyone disagreeing with what they're doing, and I shan't mince my words here, is a complete fucktard who represents everything wrong with the game in this country. "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way". Damn straight. That's hypocritcal, I guess you've been to far far more games than I have over the last few years here in England? So you seem happy enough to pay the prices?
Finchy Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 Why are they a fucktard?! NINETEEN POUNDS for a ticket is a very reasonable price. That isn't the point though is it, it's how much it's gone up. They know where it's leading and they want to stop it. Hats off to them.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 Why are they a fucktard?! NINETEEN POUNDS for a ticket is a very reasonable price. And if they didn't take action the next season it would be 25 then next season 31 then next season 36 and then we are in premiership prices please try and see the bigger picture here
Samilktray Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 Well they'll be a lot of German folk taking out mortgages to fund there saturdays after this price hike.
Tilley Posted 18 September 2010 Posted 18 September 2010 And if they didn't take action the next season it would be 25 then next season 31 then next season 36 and then we are in premiership prices please try and see the bigger picture here £36 is still reasonable for a top flight game.

Should be? you are basing on English prices, and football should not cost someone 40 odd quid, and football in Germany has gone from strength to strength and that isn't because ticket prices have been increasing because they haven't! people need to get into their heads that football isn't all about money, and if we charged fans 11 quid we would fill the stadium, get a good atmosphere and everyone would have FUN which is the forgotten word in English football
