I actually think he was underrated like a lot of Italian players.

I remember that evening very very well. I don't think there's another few hours from those years I remember so vividly to be honest. Where I was sitting, who I was with, the weather and the smell of our garden outside the window. I love the understated commentary. None of these ridiculous pre-prepared alliterations etc

I wouldn't say I never rated but off the topic of my head: Roberto Carlos and Paul Scholes are two players from my youth who were never quite as good as some people now make them out to be. To be honest Carlos is a bit of an obvious one and regularly gets mentioned in these kids of lists, so I wonder if he has become underrated. Of the current crop I'd say Van Dijk doesn't deserve the reputation he has, although he's a great player in general.

What does "Turkey itself" mean? I've never heard anyone use that phrase and it makes no sense in the context of either the Republic of Turkey or the Ottoman Empire. I've heard "European Turkey" which has been used for centuries. Even though that's smaller than it used to be it still accounts for like 20% of their population.
