  1. I bet on a social media account somewhere she describes herself as a 'veteran of the great meme war 2016'.
  2. Something uniquely tragic about adult Brits who become embroiled in American culture wars and use phrases like "Trump derangement syndrome" and "jerk offs" like an Ohio teenager in 2016 posting Pepe the Frog memes. Brings shame on our great nation.
  3. Warwickshire about to get a preview of Britain in the 2030s
  4. perhaps boring Yank culture war shit can go in a separate thread which I can then mute?
  5. this discussion has been had on this thread but I always look forward to a pint of what I would clumsily describe as 'creamy' ale when I come to e g. Leicester or Sheffield. Very different from what we have down south as you point out.

  8. I am contractually obliged to say Norfolk but apart from that, I discovered Gloucestershire last year and loved it. Nice scenery, good walks, good food and drink, some fantastic cathedrals and old monasteries around if that's your thing. I've also always wanted to explore the Welsh marches and if I drove I definitely would
  9. North East I like. All Scottish accents are great. Lancastrian is ok. But Yorkshire... just no (apart from Sheffield which is acceptable)
  10. Isn't it just standard UK/France reaction to American foreign policy?
  11. Leeds accent. Makes me almost feel physically sick.

  13. Haven't really been following this but judging by a lot of comments online it seems like Italians think there's been something of a stich up to keep Samp in B?
  14. Central America?
  15. Not sure this is true. Polls showed a slender lead for leave for years, and as far as I'm aware there's no evidence the non voters were overwhelmingly pro EU
  16. The US is built that way though. Brits see their country as some kind of haven of social democracy and stability compared to America even when that is rapidly unraveling.
  17. The important differences between UK and US are not cultural but economic. USA can survive Trump but a Reform government here would pretty much finish off a country that is rapidly resembling a failed state in many areas.
  18. It won't be because Britain isn't America. It'll just be more of the decline of the last couple of decades, but even faster and deeper.
  19. Interesting that after a few years of brexit and seeing its effects you describe remainers, not leavers, as blase
  20. Looking forward to Reform winning, their voter base becoming disillusioned with continuing low economic growth and high immigration, and deciding as a result to vote for Nigel Farage's new party in 2034
  21. If you search this topic for Verona there are a lot.
  22. On top of this, complaining about anti social behaviour in modern Britain is seen as a reactionary position. My friends will bemoan litter in the streets, shoplifting, phone snatching, loutish behaviour etc, but they'll always start with "I don't want to sound like a Tory but...". A sorry state of affairs!
  23. Increase in litter on the streets is probably the biggest aesthetic change to urban Britain I've seen in my life. I live in a supposedly nice part of London and there is an almost unbroken chain of cartons, cans, wrappers and takeaway boxes on the curb down the whole street. It's really got much worse in the last 3-4 years. It's much worse now than Sofia when I lived there, outside the gypsy ghettos, which is saying something.
