American conservatism (e.g. pro gun rights, pro Israel, anti government interference) is influenced by the specific history and makeup of the country. The puritan streak runs deep through it. It's not really analogous to European conservatism. English conservatism has unfortunately drifted over the last few decades from more European to more American.

Lucky you. I've got a spouse and child with citizenship of an EU country which helps me settle there, but I'm not that confident that if reform get in and enact this plan a) there won't be reciprocal measures against British citizens in the EU if they try anything against those with settled status here, or b) we'll even be able to move back to the UK if we need to.

A very small part of me hopes reform get in and England sinks ever further into the miry depths.
