https://ifs.org.uk/articles/reform-uk-manifesto-reaction Just in case anyone wanted to understand how realistic reforms "contract" is..... 🙄

Ultimately, that's the main reason that the current iteration of labour has had to distance themselves from everything Corbyn stood for. The "brand" had become too toxic. It's the same for the current torys. The party will need to limp off, lick their wounds and come back as a different version of themselves. Unless the populist movement of reform destroys them entirely. I'd love a labour government, but I am worried that they offer a populist alternative to those who lent their vote to Johnson and the Tories. It might not be as clear cut as everyone is thinking.

I agree on the VAT piece. To give some context though, we were door knocking in Ashby De La Zouch, which has some degree of affluence locally AND we were door knocking on a Davidsons estate where even the cheapest house is about £500,000 and most are around £650,000 to £850,000.

here's the latest analysis on the green party manifesto btw for those interested - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/bbcindepth

I'm sure lots of people are on that same journey. I know we have issues with politics threads on Foxestalk.... but it's why I want to genuinely give a balanced view for everyone and provide the materials for people to do their own research and make an informed decision on which manifesto's are right for them and their families. Clearly, no party is ever going to be able to appeal to every single idiosyncrasy and permutation that every person in the UK faces.... Personally, I think Starmer came across really well in his manifesto launch.... Confident, assured and a bit of charisma dare I say. I personally believe in the vision. So much so, that I took a decision at the weekend, to get out and support our local Labour candidate knocking doors and speaking to people. What WAS clear to me, is that lots of people of ready for a change. It's what that change that looks like that people get to decide. It was also really clear, that not everyone supports the Labour vision because of the personal impact of some of those policies. VAT on private schools came up as the main reason that people wouldn't vote labour.... I've also believe though that I want to live in a society where fairness and equity is a mainstay.

Apparently Labour Don't have a plan, but if you do want to read their plan then the manifesto can be found here - https://labour.org.uk/change/ Once in-Depth do an analysis on it, i'll post it in here for a simplified version. also, if you want to see the manifesto launch in his own words, there is a live link here -

turns out i was wrong! - The Labour manifesto will be A5 and 135 pages long.
-
I suspect the labour manifesto will only be about 30 pages long. Paint the vision, but not give too much room for it to be ripped apart. "a decade of renewal" will be the overarching theme with some overarching theory of how that will be delivered.

I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to rishi sunak and not hear the voice of Will from the Inbetweeners!!
-
Hands up if you knew that Rishi's parent's lived and were married in Leicester and that his Grandad was a Tax Collector from Oadby who got an MBE??!?!

I believe it's tomorrow, Greens have released theirs today.

I'm about to make a shameful admission............ I'm 42 years old and I've never had Sky in my life. I just don't see the value in spending £80 a month to watch TV. If there is a match I want to watch on the TV, then I'll just go to the pub, where there is a better atmosphere. I definitely don't spend £80 a month doing that!

She's a pretty solid operator and I'm sure lots of people can identify with her. She's just a normal person, uses normal language and as much as is possible with a politician, says it how it is. She's obviously got ability as she's dragged herself up from being a single mum and a carer, to potentially being deputy prime minister. That doesn't happen by luck or happenchance.

I stand corrected apologies. I lived in Hinckley & Bosworth for voting purposes in 2010 & 2015 and LD came second on both of those occasions. Stopthetories.vote aren't currently giving a tactical vote recommendation for the constituency yet.
-
didn't necessarily mean a change in your own voting patterns.... i meant a change in the local MP.
-
it's an absolute game changer.

oh I don't disagree with any of that.... however....... now imagine a world, where the club have agreed that he can wait till the end of the Euro's to give us a decision..... they think it's pretty much a done deal, so haven't explored anyone else and then that manager decides a better opportunity has come up (possibly the england job) and takes that instead. it's hard enough to chart a path to survival this season, we need someone who wants to be starting straight away, assessing our squad, looking at the gaps that might exist and working with recruitment to target solutions to those problems.... maybe even working to identify which players they are happy to be sold, in order to free up funds OR stave off another points deduction. if the club are happy for that to be paused until someone decides whether we are worth the risk or not, a month or more from now, then we deserve everything we get next season. you simply cannot run a business that way.

agreed. seems very genuine and authentic. I was very firmly Lib Dems in my early voting "career" as they were the most likely to unseat my local MP.... but having moved house that isn't the case any more and feels like a wasted vote in the FPTP system. I'm really hoping that there is some tactical voting at this election and we see a big resurgence in the Lib Dems and the number of seats they win. If you fancy a change from the Conversatives tom, Them Lib Dems are the best alternative for you in Hinckley & Bosworth but even then it would have to be a huge swing. in fact, if the Tories lose Hinckley & Bosworth then they will be in hellish territory in terms of overall seats, as it's one of the safest tory seats ever. it's been blue for my entire life that's for sure.
-
we should never give that much power to someone..... imagine your entire pre-season prep hinging on whether he gets the england job or not and we are prepared the gamble the season on that fact. if someone isn't chomping at the bit to walk through the door and get started, then they aren't the right person. move on, find someone who is.

with the BMW i4, we got two things which have entirely changed my driving experience and I'd find it hard to go back from.... we have a heads up display, which displays your satnav map and turn instructions on the windscreen (as well as your current speed) - so I literally never have to take my eyes off the road and then secondly (and I realise this has been around for a while) is adaptive cruise control. my journey to work is 55 miles each way, mainly down the M42 and M40.... I can set my speed on the motorway and genuinely don't have to worry what the traffic is doing around me. I can literally just steer (albeit, the car does some of that for me as well) - I don't think I've ever felt more relaxed on a drive!

We test drive one when we were undecided on which way to go. for us, the minimalist interior felt a little on the cheap side and there was lots of gaps between components.... having test driven the tesla as well, we really didn't enjoy everything having to be done through the touchscreen... I was constantly taking my eyes off the road...
-
We've just got a BMW i4 in the last couple of weeks. The interior is essentially the same as the ICE BMW 4 series with a couple of tweaks. It's a lovely place to be sat and the mileage / range we are getting is pretty solid. getting over 300 miles of range per charge which in my head is about the equivalent you'd get for a tank of petrol. (albeit, we were coming from a diesel, so it's a bit of an adjustment for us) as we have home charging, it's been a nice change to not have to top up at the garage every week and it's costing us 2p per mile to drive. i'll take £6.00 for 300 miles every day of the week.

don't ever sit in a Tesla then!
