  1. It's a really delicate balancing act isn't it. My wife definitely wants to live much more in the here and now which i definitely do want to do.... but I also see my Mum's situation and definitely DON'T want to end up like that for having no plan.
  2. Congratulations!! I hope you have plans to stay busy, active and engaged. My Dad retired at 64 and he is fishing a couple of times a week and does lots of walking. He also goes to the gym every morning. I went to the lake district with him a couple of weeks back and in his late 60's he was absolutely putting me to shame on the fell walking. not a bead of sweat on him! He has lots of UK breaks and has a generally great life from what I can see. I've never seen him so relaxed and fulfilled. My Mum on the other hand, has hit retirement age, and her and my step-dad are absolutely screwed. They ran their own business for nearly 30 years and never really planned for retirement. I think they expected the business to give them an income in retirement. Anyway, the had to close the business during covid and selling everything off, still left a mountain of debt and they still have a £150k mortgage on their house with neither of them now working. They are about the liquidate the house and have around £180k to buy something to live in. At one point they had over £1m of property. But a combination of being terrible at business and being impulsive, means they never capitalised on that and were constantly selling property to pay tax bills. I hope you have a fantastic retirement and get to do more of the things you love. I'm about 25 years away from that day!! Albeit, Me and wife were looking at our projected pension provision for when that day comes and we have worked out we should have around £65k a year as a couple in retirement all being well. I'm hoping that gives us a comfortable retirement to do the things we've dreamt of doing up to that point.
  3. she's a great example of what happens when people from think tanks get into power.
  4. He became a single issue MP for most of the last 2 years. He was found guilty of lying in court in a family dispute. He broke lobbying rules in parliament. He got kicked out of the party and THEN cosied up with Laurence Fox & his party, before falling out with them over the use of a car and "quit". Kicked his wife and Son out of their home just before Christmas and did virtually zero door knocking other than dropping leaflets through doors. OTHER than that, he was a perfectly legitimate candidate. I'm more surprised that he actually got any votes!
  5. 100% agree with you. they absolutely had a scorched earth policy!!
  6. Personally, I think they probably are doing the hard and unpopular stuff early. The WFA is the RIGHT policy, it SHOULD be means tested... but maybe it needs to be tapered in the same way that UC is. Just to soften any kind of Cliff Edge. I know you thought his conference speech was awful, but I actually quite like the fact that he is being pragmatic and honest in terms of the state of the country. We all have eyes, we can see how broken everything appears to be. I absolutely don't regret my vote one bit. I would 100% prefer these guys in than the blue lot and 1000% more than the turquoise lot!

    The Weather

Can confirm it is sheeting it down in Ashby!
  8. so are you all saying I need to give up my "Two For Tuesday" Dominoes????
  9. I see loads of ex teachers working in Learning & Development teams as Coaches and Trainers.... if she really did want to transition out, that's the most likely route to take.
  10. except when you look back, the majority of posters on here said Emery wasn't good enough for us at the time.
  11. He isn't "really" playing with 3 DCM's is he. Ndidi is currently 3rd in the assists chart. He's using him to turnover play in our attacking third. it's unlikely that other 10's would be able to do this as effectively. It's a bit of a strange renaissance for Wilf really. It shouldn't really work, none of us would have predicted it prior to maresca shifting him forward, but somehow, he does a job. It's not as pretty to watch as Madison at 10. But I'd almost rather have Wilf further forward if he HAS to start, as his loose passes are lest likely to hurt us that far up field AND he creates an opportunity to turnover play where it's most likely to hurt our opposition.
  12. agreed. it's a poor look. (pardon the pun)
  13. I think they needed to use the "honeymoon period" to make some of these drastic changes. Even the conservatives were looking at removing the WFA allowance under Teresa May. There is a decent article from Laura Kuenssberg (I never thought i'd say that!!) on the BBC in-depth section today. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c87g7vdjqzyo It talks about the long term persistent problems that no political parties want to touch as it's too damaging for them with the voters... (The Triple Lock being one example) It's worth a read. our Politics and Style of Government need some systemic changes. It can't continue to be wholly short termist and operating from news cycle to news cycle. We vote for these people to make decisions that are for the better of the long term health of the country. They should start doing that and some of these early moves by Labour, whilst not good for PR, seem to be fitting that bill. There's also a 2nd article on how HS2 costs spiralled out of control. The move to merge the bodies responsible for Infrastructure in the UK over the weekend seems a sensible move. I suspect there will be more harsh feeling policies in October... but it's likely we NEED to do those things to get the country on to an even keel.
  14. What happens if we give him a pro debut in the first team?? LOTS of pressure obviously, but does it mean we could get a higher fee at a tribunal? Or tie him to pro terms??
  15. Sounds like they need a proper recruitment professional on board. 🙋‍♂️
  16. absolute scenes when they roll out Blur and reignite the 90's feud....
  17. could suggest Hermansen is on the way? edit - wrong kaminski then!!
  18. mainstream media will report it as "Starmer says taxes to increase"........ as opposed to "Starmer sticks to pre-election promise of not raising NI, VAT or Income Tax".... then all of the anti labour mob will be slathering all over the place saying "it's always the way with labour".... I think there does need to be a REALLY honest debate with the country about the mess that we are in... what can be protected, what can we achieve and how do we get there. I'm a labour voter.... HOWEVER, I don't think they have got it right in terms of sharing a joined up vision of the future and getting the public behind it. I'm sure people wouldn't mind an increase in tax, if there was a vision of the end goal.
  19. You must be new to all this. THIS is exactly the Leicester that Leicester have normally been. The previous decade has been a huge anomaly.
  20. Subs were lined up before the goal.
  21. Fatawu didn't track the runner.
  22. I suspect it will be doing something to do with the fact we are a mainly service based economy.... i'm probably not smart enough to provide proof of that.... but we just don't really make (or own) anything anymore. Service sector jobs are typically low paid. So Job creation figures look good... but it's not really in "skilled labour". It means that as a business it's relatively easy to keep salaries low.
  23. Well this is my new favourite thread.
  24. I quite like tugenhat. He came across well in the previous leadership race. I think they missed an opportunity when they picked Boris ahead of Rory Stewart all those years ago.
