  1. Best not let @Tommy G see this! https://taxpolicy.org.uk/2024/06/06/tories_accidental_70_percent/
  2. Thats the spirit, a ringing endorsement!! This isn't a "sliding doors moment" as such.... but I met my wife 9 years ago, when we worked together in the same business.... however... there had been so many moments where we could have met before but hadn't. Her Great Uncle turns out to be my Grandads best friend, and I'd met him loads of times at family events, but obviously, she had never been there. I also used to work in central Leicester, and she worked as a bank manager at the bank that was in the bottom of my building for the time that I was there. When I bought my first house in Earl Shilton, she was then the bank manager in the Nationwide in the village and happened to live at the top of my road and finally, I used to own a bar in Hinckley and her brother once DJ'd there as part of a bigger club night that was put on and she was there. We've always said it's crazy that we didn't meet earlier than we did, but the timing of us meeting was probably right, as we were ready to settle down at that point!
  3. I said it previously that the conspiracy theory part of my brain is saying that they don't actually want to win, as they know the state of the economy and that the brexit tranisiton is about to bite hard... they would rather be in opposition and lay the blame at labours door.... I'm not sure they anticipated Reform gaining momentum though and staring down the barrel of not even being the official opposition. As it stands, on a number of polls, it has a surge for the lib dems and them making the 2nd largest party in parliament. Thing is as well, it self perpetuates... if people suddenly think that they could vote for an alternative and that there is a bigger chance of that party winning the seat, then it might mobilise the people who would normally stay at home.... It's going to be a VERY interesting election night that's for sure!
  4. just my regular reminder of the main parties campaign websites so that people can make an informed choice of who they want to support. https://www.conservatives.com/ https://labour.org.uk/updates/ https://www.libdems.org.uk/ (if you haven't watched the video from Ed Davey on his caring responsibilities, it's a moving watch!) https://greenparty.org.uk/ https://www.reformparty.uk/policies some of this might help people to get beyond the soundbites and media commentary and delve deeper into what each party is offering.
  5. If you wouldn't chop someones arm off to have this type of security in the premier league, then I'm not quite sure what you are expecting from us over the next few years.... in his entire Premier League career, he has finished lower than 16th on only 2 occasions.
  6. If this is true it's absolutely scandalous!!! Average wages have only gone up £200 per week since 2010, it's no wonder everyone is struggling.
  7. Absolutely loving it. Costs 2p per mile to drive and it's both rapid and a really smooth drive.
  8. It's a pretty bad day for the Tories when the Spectator says that based on Rishi's commitments, and using the same calculations he used for labours policies it will cost every household £3000. The SPECTATOR!! It's literally the mouthpiece of the conservatives party but is taking a stance based on last night's lies. Jesus.
  9. I genuinely think Malik Scott has ruined him as a trainer.... he's tried to turn him into a "boxer" (which he isn't capable off) - part of his danger was that he was wild and erratic and just threw bombs.... My personal opinion, is that by trying to get him to work off of the jab, he doesn't know when to throw the right hand and it's removed the only asset he had as a weapon. That, coupled with the fact that the boxing world has figured out he can't fight off the back foot, so everyone of any quality is just pushing him back..... the fear factor has gone. I have to say though, there were some cracking fights on that Card.
  10. ask yourself this though...... if we hire him, do you honestly think the hierarchy at the club would retain him in he got us relegated? I'm not sure most of the fan base would accept that.
  11. Imagine any other business where the responsibility for the main part of a £200m turnover organisation is given to someone with no real track record of delivering at that level or in the context of the situation the business is currently facing.... lots of our fans are saying "yeah that's go for that unproven person as he might have some great ideas"... we probably wouldn't be able to get him, but i'd pick Moyes all day long. He's picked clubs up by the scruff of the neck before and got them on a stable footing. If anyone is expecting us to reach the levels we had in recent years with the next manager, given our current context, then you are bonkers. We need someone to stabilise us, make us hard to beat and then let us build from there.
  12. The cynic in me thinks the Tories actually do want to lose the election. Maybe they know how bad the books are and don't want to be the party in power when all the chickens come home to Roost. They can then blame the carnage on "labours incompetence". It may even be that they can see that one of ways out of this mess is to re-join or re-negotiate with the EU, but can't really do so, as they are the main architects of brexit. if none of the above is true, the levels of incompetence on this GE campaign is breath-taking!
  13. Which is fair, but if you lose KDH over the summer, then you have soumare as his replacement. I suspect you'd prefer praet over him and that's with choudary as a regular starter in central midfield. It's a relegation midfield with that personnel.
  14. We aren't playing at the level anymore and we've also lost some squad depth in praet, kelechi and ndidi walking away.
  15. I know lots of people seem to think we have a "strong squad" but we really don't. Our strike force is Vardy (too old for a full game every week) Daka and Cannon. We have two wingers (Mcateer isn't a PL winger). We have a midfield of winks, KDH (Unless he's sold) and choudary. Our centre backs are coady, faes, maybe vestegaard and soutarr. Ben nelson might step up, who knows. We have an ageing Ricky at RB and Justin at LB. that doesn't scream even mid table. Then what is the bench?? Unproven players in Alves and Braybook. Stolarchyk who's never really played consistently, kristiansen who doesn't want to be here and soumare who has failed before. We allegedly have very little money for signings either. it's a relegation scrap at the very best even without a points deduction.
  16. I Live in Andrew Bridgens constituency..... almost anything is a lesser evil if I'm honest!
  17. Importantly Ben, you are making your use of your democratic right to vote and ultimately, you are allowed to vote for whoever you want to and those that align with your values. I absolutely commend you for that, and I'd love it if most of our population would take the same approach. A democracy only works if everyone has their say.
  18. What if everyone who would vote labour in gedling makes a similar assumption to you and the conservatives MP retains their seat? If your aim in this election is to make sure a Tory doesn't remain in seat, then I'd argue voting for whichever party is best placed to win that seat is the right vote.
  19. this is madness of the highest order.
  20. or Brian Clough!
  21. Hell will freeze over before Hinckley and Bosworth is anything other than a Tory seat.
  22. It's not really though is it..... each of those manages has an agent.... part of the process of managing that list is to know who the agents are, build strong relationships with them and then speak to them if a vacancy arises....
  23. Every business of any scale, will and should have a succession plan for the eventuality that key personnel leave. traditionally this is looking at internal people who may be ready to step up into their role or building networks with external candidates that would fit the profile required. Clearly, as an industry, football is much more externally focused, but it is entirely inexcusable that we wouldn't at least have a list of potential candidates that we could approach for just the sort of scenario that has played out. it may well be, that that type of list DOES exist.... but our typical approach to hiring managers in the past suggests that it doesn't.
  24. he hasn't done anything in management at any level since his retirement.... I'm not sure i'm keen on "giving him a go" to see if he could be amazing. He could be the next Lampard, Gerrard or Rooney for all know. For the situation we are in, my personal opinion is that we need an experienced manager, who has dealt with teams in the mire, able to grind out results and THEN build from there. It fees like it's going to be a pretty ugly few years as a Leicester fan.
  25. I think it's fair for you to have that view. You are absolutely entitled to it. My personal opinion is that it's a choice to utilize a service that the state also provides. As an example, if you go to London and use the tube, then you don't pay VAT on the ticket. However if you choose to use a taxi, as you view that it provides a superior service, then you do pay VAT on that price. The debate about "privilege" doesn't cut mustard with me that lots of people spout. If you CAN afford to pay for private school AND want to utilize it, that's great. I'm sure lots of us would do the same. But I also don't buy into it that because people are doing it, that they are saving money for the government, so shouldn't have to pay the right tax for the service. For the record, I'd like a world where our state education was so strong, that there wouldn't be a need for a "superior" offering in the private sector.
