that's why I was asking for clarification, as I wasn't sure if they meant what they'd typed or if it was a typo.... I also didn't want to give a strong response, if that hadn't been the original intended message.

don't start bringing your "free market" views into this thread!!

should or shouldn't??

it's such a walkable city that you've probably seen it all by now, but if you haven't whiled away an hour or two in their ampitheatre then you've missed out. I love Verona, such a beautiful little city.

allegedly around 4 in 10 parents are saying they would pull kids out of private school if this happens. There are estimated to be around 880,000 Private School Children in the UK. if 40% of those left to join state education, that would be around 352,000 children, split across around 34,000 schools in the UK..... OR roughly 13 pupils per school..... based on the fact they will have had such a gifted education up to that point and will be the brightest of the bright (maybe sarcasm) then I suspect all the state schools will be happy to receive those children as it will improve their exam performance and increase their budgets. *this maths was learnt in a state school. never did me any harm.

quite alot of them are already clearly stated on here..... https://labour.org.uk/updates/ unsurprisingly, the "Clear Plan and Bold Action" of the conservatives... seem to be missing from here.... https://www.conservatives.com/news I'll let you decide which ones you think have a plan and which you don't.... but happy reading.... I am firmly of the opinion that we should all make an informed choice when it comes to voting, rather than just the soundbites you here on TV, on social media or in the press....

i didn't say he was necessarily possible... just that he would be a good fit.

Sebastian Hoeness would be a strong pick if we could tempt him away from the Bundesliga. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5292180/2024/03/01/sebastian-hoeness-bayern-munich-interview/ sounds like a solid transition.

Which is fair, but I suspect most people, for most journeys, won't use the public charging network. I suspect most of the EV's which are struggling to sell, are those that don't have sensible range, but there are a fair few options out there now with ranges over 300 miles, which is more than adequate.for.most people, most of the time.

Just out of interest, what are everyone's thoughts on National Service??? I'd be interested in seeing the general perception of the idea. They obviously thought it would poll well... But I'm not convinced it will.

I have to pick you up on the "cost of fuel is the same".... It costs me £6 to fully charge my EV and that gets me 300 miles of range. £12 of charge gets me the equivalent mileage that our diesel did, but that cost us £75 a time to fill up. Get the right electricity tariff and home and the difference is vast.

Indulge me, what are Starmers "worst impulses"?
-
Have you visited each of the parties websites? Or are basing it purely on what you see in the news or on twitter etc?
-
AND.... surprise suprise, the new boundaries will make it more difficult to gain power.

in one seat, for sure. I do think Corbyn will be re-elected in his seat. Regardless of people's opinions on his broader views, he has generally been a very strong local MP.
-
I suspect you are right, it will be closer than you think.... I'd almost bet that the tory's are hoping that if a narrative is spun that it's a done deal, then labour voters won't feel a need to come out and vote.
-
What I do find interesting though, is that if you look at the labour website and the Conservative website.... there is MUCH more on Labours plan and how they plan to renew the country, versus what is on the Conservative website..... for all of you saying "yeah but labour don't have a plan" I suspect it's because you haven't tried to look for it, or are so tuned out to it, that you haven't heard what's been said.

to be fair this is a good watch

In the interests of some balance... for those that want some more in depth views of the main parties approaches and plans. https://www.conservatives.com/news https://labour.org.uk/updates/ https://www.libdems.org.uk/vision https://policy.greenparty.org.uk/ and if you can stomach it https://www.reformparty.uk/policies

Tom even you have to admit that he is infinitely more statesmanlike than any dross that has been served up since Cameron. I think there are some sensible proposals in what they have talked about so far. GB energy is a good idea, a border force with powers to tackle criminal gangs is more sensible than flying 200 people to Rwanda. The New Towns proposal is a good way to tackle the housing crisis. Schools being overcrowded and underfunded is a direct result of the policies of the last 14 years. Both parties will launch their manifesto's shortly and we will all be able to pour over them and see which one's fit our world view. I would then encourage everyone, regardless of their preferences to have their say and actually vote. One thing I will say, is that I really do dislike the way that our politics in the UK has descended into "whataboutery" over the last few years.

I promise you I won't be voting for him.
-
Probably... Although looking at socials, it definitely captured the public mood.

It feels like it would be pretty good politicking for Labour to lean in to that anthem throughout the campaign.

The new electoral boundaries make it harder for a labour win (surprise surprise). They need a swing of about 13% for a majority of 1. I'm hoping for a large labour win, but I suspect it might be closer than people think, so I'm going for a majority of 23
