Portugal vs Slovenia - Monday 1st July - 8pm
Leicesterpool replied to StanSP's topic in General Football and Sport
Gazza crying in 1990 I get, the yellow meant he wouldn't play in a final. Crying when you get knocked out. But crying with 15 minutes to go.. no... something ain't right. Maybe it dawned on him... Messi can win a world cup, but I can't score against Slovenia. -

Is tonight the last time we see Ronaldo in a Portugal shirt? Thought he may stick around for one more world cup, but a pen miss and in tears don't look good. Maybe a sign to throw in the towel. -

What we're seeing here from Martinez, he's a good small club manager not top level. Seen the same issues at Belgium, can't motivate high quality players. Even Ronaldo in tears! -
England v Switzerland - Saturday 6 July
Leicesterpool replied to Koke's topic in General Football and Sport
Its looking like Southgate is happy to stick with the same set of players, Southgate think its his tactical master plan, while overall it's just been luck against weaker opposition. We use this tactics against a Switzerland and they will undo very quickly as we seen against Italy. Just feel we could unleash hell if we wanted but Southgate won't let this happen. -
Bore game coming I fear again, imagine going out Sunday to Slovakia. Southgate honesty may have to emigrate to Australia for his own safety, the tournament and performances in general but losing to lowly Slovakia, wow never mind beer cups being lobbed out at him could end up being tomato's at Stansted.

Switzerland vs Italy - Saturday 29th June

This will go to pens, 1-1 draw. Likely Italy win on pens as they always do. Will be hard work for them for 120 minutes the Swiss I think will give it a go. -
Under 21's can't win it right?

Not when their a fan of the club. plus the Villa and Birmingham rivalry is a lot more hostile to many.

Abroad its seems like you can take your kids out at anytime for holidays. No questions no problems, i seem to recall back in my school days you could be off for two weeks anytime except exam times. All you needed to fill was a yellow form... fill it .. have a nice time and send a postcard. Now in the uk its a criminal offence, plus pressure on parents to spend more money and take annual leave at the same time. Having spoke to most school teachers, most werent bothered about when kids went on holiday... its the fools at the top.

Think its flexible abroad, unlike here where you get fined... education in places like Germany are probably still better than ours at present

Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England
Leicesterpool replied to Mark's topic in General Football and Sport
It's weird to think how England put in the worst three of the worst performances at a tournament but somehow win the group and without losing a single game. We've been luckily its been a crap group. Southgate and players acts at the moment like England fans are overacting, but none of the players and coaching staff had have had to fork out £1,000's of pounds to watch this drivel. It's a long way for fans fans to travel to watch 0-0 bore draw against a side that's not even in the top 50 world rankings... fans want entertainment and effort. England winning the group with five points of course is not a bad thing, but you need to inspire the fans with performances. Giving them hope for the later stages against higher ranked opposition. If England had beat Serbia 2-0! everyone's happy. Scored more than one and kept a clean sheet. Draw to Denmark but create lots of chances and but a lot of desire in... it's an okay result fans appreciate the effort against a good Denmark team. England play Slovenia, held to a 2-2 draw but create lots of chances and dominate but can't find the winner but still enough be positive to be about. Sadly we are not seeing this from England, it's like aim to score one early on and the sit back and hope for the best. Typical Southgate methods. -

This game is so dismal, its painful to watch. This simpsons clip sums up England's performance so far. https://youtu.be/rJu2qSJ9zno?si=rG_znqoeSvicVwVv -

No can't agree with that, Southgate is poor but other weaker managers who were worse, McClaren had players like Gerrard, Lampard, A.Cole, G.Neville, S.Campbell, Rooney, Terry & Ferdinand yet still couldn't qualify for a major tournament. Revie took England to their lowest world ranking, Graham Taylor completely took a decent squad of Gazza, Lineker, Butcher, Barnes, Waddle, Shilton, Pearce and Platt to pieces. Also don't forget Hodgson. -

Same old, same old from Southgate. Two dull performances, just one minor change to the squad. All the options to choose from, it's the same players being used... no squad rotation whatsoever. How do they expect young players like Mainoo, Gordon, Palmer and Wharton gain tournament experience when they don't get playing time. -

Should fear no one really, if you want to be serious winners. England do need a big statement win to just send a message... just can't see it. We will probably beat Slovenia in a narrow 1-0 victory. -
