HELP is at hand for General PC queries, not Foxestalk ones

that could be because the partition is locked or protected which in some ways makes sense. How big is it? It would depend on your manufacture/creator of the partition as to how to remove the partition. Have you tried general programs to try and remove space. I'd suggest trying Crap Cleaner! It clears a lot of stuff you don't need and can remove a lot of space. The first time it runs it takes a while (up to an hour on some machines) so just leave it be until it finished. You can also analyse first before you actually run the cleaner which gives you a report on how much space will be recovered. -

Apologies, you have to go to Computer Management and then there should be an option for Storage! -

Some don't come with a disk so you may not find it! Also, Some manufacturers pre-partition hard drives with a "backup" section so that you can easily restore should something go wrong. Windows Vista already comes with a utility that provides info on your partitions. If you go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Storage > Disk Management. This then should load a window giving information of the partitions of your hard drive. However, you won't be able to get rid of it and add it to Vista without re-installing. As long as you keep a copy of you license key you can obtain any Vista Disk which is the same version (ie. Home Edition, Home Premium, Ultimate etc) and install using the license key. When formatting and in your case, re-formatting the hard drives, you completley lose everything and its a fresh install. I think there is a way to add the partition to your sections where Vista is installed but don't know off hand how this is done..sorry! -
Got woken up by a builder asking me to move my car!!! We are getting our garage repaired and he couldnt drive his digger through the drive so I got a nice unexpected wake up call at 8.30!

The new one, G2 or Hero as T Mobile I think are now calling it, was released on Tuesday. It actually went up on the T Mobile website as I was browsing, one minute it wasn't there and the next it was!

Not sure about on here, but a lot of people have done it going by the comments left on BitterWallet and MSE! Orange must be losing a lot of customers. However, I did ask a guy in Carphone Warehouse that if I left Orange could i rejoin them and the guy said yes so people might just do it to get a new phone/better deal! Something I was planning to do but got an upgrade instead so I kept my number. If you were to cancel and return to Orange you would have to go the long whinded way around keeping your number. You can't transfer a number from orange to orange so you would have to use a pay as you go sim from 02 for example to port you number to first and then back again to orange. It all depends on how much you want to keep your number!
-
Its only because Orange are changing their terms and conditions. Unless 02 do the same and their contracts are similar, you won't be able to. Unless you have only just got the contract...

Nice one. It sounds like the BIOS reset did it. I then suspect that it was a change in the settings on your Graphics card or sound card etc that lead to the issues! -
Got woken up at 7.30 with the delivery of my new phone. Annoyance in that I had to get up at that hour and I can't get back to sleep. On the plus side though, I can play around on my new phone all day!

Can't fault you there! Def the pizza!

What was the last thing you did, installed and changed (settings wise) when you last had it running? Or did you have any automatic updates running? Also, the reason you may not be able to do the windows repair is because it doesn't have the drivers built in to the CD to recognise your hard drive and therefore can't see the C drive. There are ways around this but depends on your system/hard drive. Are you running a Dell by any chance? I had a similar problem where I had to change the hard drive settings in the BIOS so that Windows would then recognise it and do any repairs. From what you have said, it sounds like the best starting point. Also, wiping should always be the last resort because at the end of the day, with the use of another hard drive with an OS (XP or Linux) on it, you can easily grab the data off it so you won't lose it! Post as many details as possible, like the make and Model of your laptop etc and depending on how eager you are, access your BIOS and go to the hard drive settings and see what kind of HD it is: You should see things like RAID, SATA, ATA etc. But when you exit, make sure you exit without saving and hence don't change any settings unexpectedly. Don't go in the BIOS if you don't have a clue what you are doing though! -

Can you see the drive in My Computer? If not, then it sounds like BIOS/Driver issues in that your system doesn't know if there is a drive actually there. Can you provide more details of your laptop and CD drive? EDIT: Sorry, only just ready your previous post. Sounds like a tricky one to solve - the best suggestion I have would be to run a program called SiSoft Sandra which will actually detect if your CD drive is there or not. Download from here and run the application to give a report. From there you will be able to find out the information of your CD drive. The other option is to search online on Sony Vaio forums to see if anyone has had any similar issues. Further to this, actually post on them to see what people suggest as they might have more knowledge on the issue and provide a solution for you. -

I totally understand where you are coming from and what you are trying to do. I have had problems like this in the past and have never really solved them to be honest. Mainly because I didn't have the time to write the scripts and test etc and also because it wasn't worth it in the end. Windows, and XP in particular, is very poor in "Limiting" the accounts. But thinking about it a bit more and probably because something I'd just like to find the answer to, I wouldnt mind looking into it. I'll try and have a look over the next few days to see if there are any login scripts/easier solutions that can be assigned to a user type. I'll be honest though, User accounts and networking etc aren't my strong point so it may take a while to figure out but there must be a way because at school, although it was on a network, there was a way on XP you could restrain a user from carrying out some tasks. This must have been a setting assigned to a "user type". It will just be a case of writing a script/changing reg settings etc but maybe a little work will be needed. I have used programs like Win Utilities but this again changes things on my account too and its hassle doing it for every account. There is a choice of writing a macro/script to do these changes but this could be time consuming and depends how much you really want it I guess. I don't mind trying to help you out on this over the next few days if you want DB11 (PM your MSN if its easier..?) -
Lebowski it is then...
