  1. People in this country almost have a type of trauma/hangover from the Second World War where their Great Grandparents/Grandparents went through an extreme hardship and came out the other end. This has been used to remind people ever since the event 'If we survived the Blitz we can survive this', 'Back in my day we had rations', 'You have it too easy' etc and we have a generation of people who came after those who lived through WW2 that had lets say an easier life but were reminded about it every single day which has left them feeling inadequate because they are desperate for their own 'We survived' moment. Politicians know this and that's why they are channeling this war rhetoric and whipping people up into a frenzy. People in this country are easily misled as soon as any mention of the World Wars are invoked, they fly into a frenzy of blind patriotism and will literally do or say anything to achieve the same 'glory' as back then, hence the tired old comments such as 'If it wasn't for us they would be speaking German and should be more grateful' etc etc. This is why people want Brexit. Blind Patriotism and they want their own we survived moment and they want to be able to remind the generations that come after them about it too.
  2. I actually think you’d have to be completely deluded to trust a Conservative government not to strip away these rights. As a poster pointed out, its an EU law that brought these rights in the first place. The Government if they so chose could rewrite the law when we leave to suit them and I have almost no doubt in my mind that these benefits will be changed to be at the employers discretion. Which basically means paid holiday for Board members but nobody else. I could be wrong but many Conservatives have been outspoken critics of these laws for a long time and Brexit will give them free reign to ‘cut the red tape’ as they keep banging on about.
  3. I’m not insane... A quick bit of research will show how many Tories are openly against these things as well as the current Human rights act. They have also sidestepped the question time and time again if Britain will implement a similar version into law for when we leave the EU. Of course they won’t be printing that on any manifestos but honestly even if they did in the current climate many people will ‘sacrifice’ those things for Brexit because its become an obsession.
  4. Exactly this. No matter what Johnson does he is now the hero of the leavers story. They will overlook pretty much any transgression because they see him as the plucky underdog taking on the established remainer elite. At this point many leavers will be happy to suffer because 1) They will enjoy and revel in the 'Victory' of Brexit and 2) most of them are chomping at the bit to have their 'We survived x' moment hence why the 'We survived two world wars' comments keep cropping up, its a borderline fetish for some people. In terms of immigration and what not, absolutely nothing will change. The rich will get more benefits and tax breaks whilst shifting the focus to the Welfare state and the every day person will have to pay more in taxes and a higher cost of living with no real terms rises in wages. Not to mention that workers rights will absolutely be stripped back in the name of 'stimulating growth' and 'cutting the red tape' - paid leave, maternity pay and sick pay will be a thing of the past so make the most of what you have now.
  5. Actually think this is the opposite and it would force him to consider leaving us for a 'Top 6' team so he can get in the England squad.
  6. The hype from the World Cup has well and truly died down. Southgate has been sussed out with the nations league semis and these recent selections. Thanks for the World Cup Gareth but its time for you to go. You cant pick that midfield and concede 3 goals at home to Kosovo and then consider yourself a serious contender for the Euros. Need a fresh approach now.
  7. Bake off every day of the week. Watching England play qualifiers is hard work. Especially now Maddison isn’t getting a look in, seems like England have reverted to similar big team selections from the Hodgson days.
  8. This is where the Brexiteers are mostly getting angry because they feel that the referendum vote must come before anything else. There are rules and procedures to follow and the Leavers voted for Parliament to have full 'Sovereignty' and this is part of that Sovereignty. All the speaker does is allow the MPs to have a fair say, whatever their viewpoint. The problem is that Leavers have now got to the point that they want to shut down all Remainers - I'm sorry but this is part of the democracy you all harp on about, everyone has a say.
  9. World Cup last year aside Southgate has always been an uninspired choice and genuinely isn't the man to take England forward. We'll revert to form in the Euros and get knocked out by the first half decent side we play in the quarter finals. We won't win anything with the midfield choices he keeps making no matter how good our attack is. Also having Aidy Boothroyd in charge of the u21s it doesn't look like the FA are planning for the future rather they are just giving jobs to the boys as per usual. Joke of an organization and the sooner its reformed the better.
  10. And do you think Andrea Leadsom of all people will be impartial? Not a chance in hell. Its more gaming by Johnson/Cummings to shut down Democracy and usher in Conservative Authoritarian rule. Say what you like about Bercow and what you perceive to be overstepping but we are in uncharted waters politically so there will be times where he will use his judgement for what he thinks is best for all of parliament and not just the Government. Which has been arguably right because there has been a majority in Parliament to rule out no deal since day dot.
  11. Its as clear as day they want a dictatorship where they can put anything through unopposed regardless to existing rules or laws. Leavers are always on Bercows case calling him undemocratic when in fact all he is doing is obeying and enforcing the rules of the land. Its not his fault that this and the previous Conservative Government has been trying to subvert the rules and laws.
  12. He’s a grown man who makes his own decisions and recently he’s been making consistently poor ones. No body deserves to be kicked in by 6 blokes but Drinkwater needs to stop putting himself in these situations. The writing should be obvious and clear on the wall yet he keeps making bad decisions. Its sad to see but I think he is beyond help at this point and will keep spiralling. He’s nearly 30 and he shouldn’t need a constant arm around him to keep him on the rails, we all have to mature at some point. I hope he sorts himself out purely because of what he achieved here but its not looking likely.
  13. Conservatives have spent years and years trying to keep Farage out of power, he's been living in their heads rent free. This whole mess is because the Conservatives have been running scared of him, they won't get into bed with him now as its too late. Plus they rely heavily on moderate voters, their membership might have been infiltrated by former UKIP members but that doesn't cover their whole voter base. They won't want to align with him for fear of scaring them off. We are in for years of uncertainty because no party is going to be able to command a majority, the hardcore Brexit voters will vote the Brexit party, hardcore remainers will vote Lib Dems and you'll have the traditional Labour and Tory voters too. I can't see any of them making a pact too soon because of the Toxicity around politics at the minute.
  14. It was less than 4% majority. We haven't been bullied and screwed at all, you've brought into the crap that the eurosceptic tories and the billlionaire owned press are peddling because they are scared of the European Tax Directive which will stop them from using tax havens and actually having to pay what they owe. The EU has delivered things such as human rights, workers rights, paid holiday, maternity leave etc which your everyday people benefit from, benefits the tories want to strip away the first chance they get. The only people the EU will be screwing over is tax dodgers.
  15. Its not going to be a complete catastrophe in an end of the world sense but the reality is that some people will really suffer, especially those in need of timely medicine deliveries from out counterparts in Europe. I really hope that if this situation comes to pass that humanity will prevail and there will be a temporary agreement of sorts to at least allow medicine to pass but I fear that with this Government and the EU they will be far more interest in points scoring. Life will get more expensive for the common person in the short-mid term and there most certainly will be a recession and judging on how the last one worked out, it'll be a rough few years. We will get over it but the reality is its completely avoidable and self inflicted.
  16. I think a reasonable solution would be in a sense a two stage referendum. The first stage would have 3 options, leave with the deal on the table, leave with no deal and remain. The second stage would be a direct tie breaker between the top two from the previous stage. People will say they are tired and blah blah but the future of our country is at stake so to be honest... suck it up. The truth is there are people that want to leave with a deal but if a deal isn't possible they would like to remain or leave with no deal and then you have the hardcore voters for both remain and no deal. I think it would be a mistake to ignore the no deal voters by only offering a choice between a deal and remain, everyone should have a fair shout now things are clearer. The truth is that the leave campaign was built on the fact that 'we would get a great deal' and that no deal was a scare tactic by the remainers. Now the hardcore leavers have taken up No deal by default I believe the people who believed they thought we'd be getting a 'great deal' should be given a second chance. If we really were to get a good deal this wouldn't be an issue and another thing to count is that if the ERG and hardcore leavers in the Tory party voted for the deal they got we would have left the EU by now so this situation is entirely of their making. Not the remainers as many people are trying to say.
  17. Time isn't relative in this issue at all because the current mindset is that a referendum was held, it should be respected no matter the cost. Completely ignoring and not respecting the referendum that was previously held on this exact same issue. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of what many people are saying.
  18. It takes years to agree trade deals even when both sides are willing to make one. Its not a case of leaving on the 31st of October and walking into new trade deals on the 1st of November. As a country we've let the EU handle all the negotiations for years on trade and kept out of it, mostly because our politicians are self serving and lazy. In the case of no deal we'll revert to trading on WTO terms, by the way how does that work out for the North Koreans? and it will take us a minimum of 5 years before the first trade deals are ratified. In the meantime the cost of living will go up dramatically for ordinary people such as ourselves and even when trade terms are more favourable for Britian will any company lower prices after 5 years of keeping them high and being allowed too? No because its all about profits. This has been about what its always been about rich toffs looking to make as much money as they can without a care to who it affects. JRM stands to make millions when his investment firm capitalists on the market uncertainty by hoovering up assets on the cheap. Not to mention the Tories plan on 'cutting the red tape' by reducing corporation tax, tax for the rich and removing workers rights, who do you think will make up the tax shortfalls? Us. People need to wake up and realise that Brexit isn't for them, its for the rich.
  19. One thing that really annoys me about leavers is their constant whining about upholding democracy but the reality is as a country we had the first vote on this in 1975 and the leavers lost even more convincingly so than the remain side in 2016 yet they have been doing nothing but complain and try to overturn the result ever since which they successfully did in 2016. The reality is democracy allows for a difference of opinion and if it wasn't for democracy the leavers would never have been able to get the chance for another vote. As it stands its currently 1-1, we are now in a position where we now know more about the ramifications of a leave vote and the type of deal that would be on offer if the country were to take it. It would make most sense at this point to have a tie breaker referendum and put the matter to bed once and for all.
  20. The Conservatives aren't exactly clean either - they've been supplying the Saudis with weapons for years who in turn have been supplying and arming terrorists which the Conservative Government knows but still presses ahead with sales anyway. The reality of this sad situation is that Boris will get the votes he needs from the public because he said derogatory remarks about Muslims, if he hadn't have written that column he would not be getting the hero worship he is from some quarters.
  21. Farage does not want Brexit. Brexit actually happening will make him irrelevant. If he was so against Europe, he'd donate his hefty European funded wage to a veterans charity (god knows how many points that would score him on a political scale) but no he still turns up to Brussels, takes his wage/pension all whilst building a profile for himself and taking Arron Banks millions. There is no way he would want off this gravy train and he will stand against the Tories because he knows he'll split the Brexit vote and keep himself relevant.
  22. Even if it doesn't work the right wing element of the leave camp will never let the country simply go back to the EU without civil unrest. Its been turned into a full blown flag waving ultra nationalistic movement within far right circles and to go back, no matter how fair of a crack Brexit is given would be seen as the ultimate surrender and treason in their eyes.
  23. It has never done us any favours but there was a democratic vote and leave did win - that has to be honored in some respect. Unfortunately the flag waving and populism to score political points since the referendum was announced has turned the whole situation toxic beyond repair. We are now in a situation where we leave and do short - mid term damage to the economy potentially ruining a lot of peoples lives in the process and risking conflict in Northern Ireland or we revoke article 50 and remain in the EU, the economy stays stable but there will be rioting and domestic terrorism. Its a choice where sadly nobody wins because of how toxic this has turned. What annoys me more than anything is that the main drivers of the leave debate are not in fact patriotic or driven by a need to see their country thrive but rather self interest and greed to make millions off the uncertainty Brexit will cause in the market.
  24. Remainers are a bit like the prawn sandwich brigade, they'll turn up and protest and moan as long as it remains the popular/in thing to do but eventually they'll get bored/distracted and move on. The hard core leavers are the true danger in a scenario where they don't get what they want as many of them have gathered under the Brexit banner as they see it way of legitimizing their right wing views. Not all leavers are like this at all but the true danger between extreme remainers and extreme leavers is the extreme leavers.
  25. Technically good but that's pretty much about it. A move to a slower league will probably benefit him and hopefully he has a good enough spell to get a perm move away.
