I've just seen the interview with the Reform MP on the news regarding the Manchester Airport incident. Unbelievable. This is the text, I couldn't find the video. IMO the CT scan bit is irrelevant. I doubt the scan would have changed his view: Speaking before the CT scan, Anderson claimed: “The message I am getting loud and clear from my constituents is they are fed up with seeing police dancing around rainbows and being nice to people and running off from rioters. “They want police to do their job, and I think these police yesterday should be commended. “In fact, I’d give them a medal.”

I have worked alongside police officers on many occasions in all types of situations and I have to say that each and every one of them worked in a professional way. Personally I witnessed nothing more than exemplary behaviour despite what they and I were confronted with. It's a shame that the sort of behaviour shown in the video clip seems to categorise police officers as violent and impatient and overreacting and people will jump on clips like this to vent, regardless. IME the police are anything but.

A small but very vocal minority, mostly with a grievance against them for whatever reason. There is nothing perfect in any walk of life or any profession and we have to accept faults and failings in everything and everyone. Sadly there's a minority that can't.

I don't hold out much hope as there have been years of brushing the issue under the carpet by both governments in the 30 or so years since Thatcher and her "care in the community" bollocks. And I, like many others on FT, have personal experience of the lack of REAL support and action from all major political parties. Speaking out is one thing, actually and meaningfully pressurising ministers to act, is another.

The only facts that are what we see in the 44 seconds recorded on a phone. What we don't see are the "facts" leading up to that which possibly have been deliberately left out of the phone footage to promote/provoke reaction on Twitter or whatever. I agree that what we see, is appalling and the officers actions are beyond reasonable but, when you read the statement from GMP it's apparent that something occurred before what we see online. Before we all leap to judge, we should wait to evaluate the whole incident. But of course, being social meeedja, we won't, and haven't, as you can see from posts on here.

I get your point. Perhaps I was simply expecting too much from my local MP and I guess I'm not the only one. I very much doubt Luke Evans is going to raise my personal concerns about the state of our MH services in Parliament unless there's a significant lobby supporting me. In the same way as he never even replied to an invitation to visit the local foodbanks. That gives the impression that they didn't matter to him, he had bigger fish to fry. And I guess that applies to most MP's in office and the individual or "small" matters of concern get filtered down to local Councillors

Exactly. See my post, above.

But don't the party whips carry an undue threat against an MP I might have voted for because I wanted them to represent me as an individual and to take on board the issues important to me and those that I believe are important to our country? How can any elected MP be expected to uphold the reasons they were elected if they can be browbeaten by party whips in order to follow government dictats that they fundamentally don't agree with? What's the point?
-
It seems to me that these individuals and groups have in some cases a quite positive effect but also can be adversely influential particularly amongst the younger and less life savvy amongst society. Should there be a statutory code of conduct ?
-
Are government whips a good thing or are they just a method of bullying MP's to toe the line against their better judgement which, to me, seems just against the democratic principles of parliament

Apparently beating off a horse isn't allowed either

I kind of understand the immediate emotional reaction to "do something" to help. £250,00 and growing if the reports are correct, seems a bit above and beyond. IMO enough to cover unexpected funeral expenses and to provide a nice memorial, maybe a community garden or something similar that can be an ongoing project, dedicated to their memory. I've never suffered such a loss so what do I know. Is there a limit set on GoFundMe appeals?

I had this on the A46 last week. Stuck in a queue behind a truck overtaking another in the outer lane. Idiot self entitled dick in a BMW so close behind me I couldn't see the grille or bonnet badge in my mirror. It was obvious that I could only go at the same speed as the truck. When eventually I was able to get back into lane 1 he came up beside me and flicked the V's. Twats, these people.

They both need a vest on.

I'd imagine, given your location, it's easier to understand and has relevance.

Young Offenders. Unintelligible, preposterous nonsense. Characters supposed to be of school age looking about 23 yrs old and a plotline that makes no sense.

He posted that he was struggling and I think that he has since departed this world. Always recognisable by his posts and style of writing as well as his insight into City games I'm gonna say... RIP.

I have since found this: "There is a huge range of pre-existing conditions that can be listed on the death certificate, from heart disease and cancers, to obesity and heart arrhythmias. For the more than 140,000 deaths that were due to COVID-19, it has been determined that COVID-19 was the underlying cause of death, as opposed to one of these pre-existing conditions. To conclude We distinguish between deaths that are “due to COVID-19” and those “involving COVID-19” to provide the most comprehensive information on the impact of the disease on mortality. More than 140,000 deaths have been due to COVID-19, meaning that it has been determined as the underlying cause. To exclude individuals with any pre-existing conditions from this figure greatly understates the number of people who died from COVID-19 and who might well still be alive had the pandemic not occurred". So what they're saying is that, although the deceased had a pre-existing condition, they died from Covid where otherwise they might have survived had Covid not happened. That still doesn't explain the figure included from traumatic deaths
-
And that was bizarre in the extreme. I still don't understand how, if your certified cause of death was from a non-covid event such as you mention, but you tested positive at post-mortem, how is that related?

The only word in that sentence I would consider generally comparable is "diet". There are plenty of overweight, obese, lazy, unfit, diabetic, respiratory and cardiac illness sufferers, alcohol and tobacco users in central European countries.
