Does anyone on here remember Star n' Bars in South Wigston? It used to be a "cabaret" venue and I worked there as a DJ/compere/follow-spot operator in around 1979/80. It didn't last long but we had some "names" on the bill from back then. Brotherhood of Man, Acker Bilk, (my mate nicked his jacket)! Paul Daniels, Showaddywaddy. Norman Collier who did this routine. This is not at the Stars n' Bars, BTW but from Tarbuck's chat show way back then: There was hypnotist as well, quite well known at the time, but I can't remember his name all these years later. After the show he offered to hypnotise some of the staff. I was sceptical but I gave it a go. I thought he's rubbish, hasn't affected me! But now, whenever my wife says "dinner" I start doing a chicken impression...* *Not really. Stage hypnotism is all just auto-suggestion, mind trickery and people in the audience wanting to show off.

My daughter, who i have posted about earl An update... She was sectioned yesterday and is currently in a secure MHU. We're not sure what brought this about but apparently the police and MHU professionals were involved following concerns raised by the crisis team and her MH team after neighbours made complaints about her behaviour and our own calls to them a few weeks ago, when we realised she was spiralling downwards. We went to her flat to get things she needed and frankly, it was a tip, again. Just self neglect. No effort to look after herself. Food waste, general debris all over. No evidence of any cleaning routine. Just so, so sad to see how she has been living even though we've been before and cleared all her waste and rubbish, hoping that might initiate something within her to continue to keep her flat a decent place to live in. It clearly didn't because she is in that deep trough of depression that nothing is worth caring about, except her beloved cat and he has everything he needs because he, in her mind is her only friend and companion. She can't understand why she has been sectioned and thinks that there is no justification for her being there. She has been irrational and psychotic for months and now, hopefully, she will get some proper support and involvement from the MH professionals that she has needed but not received, for so long. I feel despair. I have no doubt that she will be discharged from hospital after she has recovered and been deemed safe to go home, but I know from previous experience that any stability is unlikely to be long term. A year at best down the line and we'll be back here again. Like so many other illnesses, MH is incurable but unlike those other illnesses, it isn't a priority for proactive treatment. Friends say we are remarkable people to still be here, together, not giving up. To us, albeit she is our adopted daughter she is someone we love and care deeply about and we'd never give up trying to make her life better. 20 or so years of us trying to manage and understand and adapt and forgive and move on from the turmoil and heartbreak and stress she has caused through no fault of her own because she is after all, unwell has really taken it's toll on us. But as I've said before in previous posts, we carry on because without us, we people who care for our loved ones, who else is there?

Going through my remaining collection of vinyl and I cam a cross this which I hadn't seen or played for years: Apparently worth a few shekels? Also re-discovered 3 Beatles albums: I used to think I wasn't keen on The Beatles, but hearing them again on vinyl on a mono record player, I think I've changed my mind. Their sound from those recordings is quite unique. I was thinking of selling. I'm not sure of the value, but now I'm tempted to keep them to play every now and again.

On the last news bulletin, it was said that the ship issued a mayday call allowing the bridge to be closed before the collision.
-
Also, the traffic seems to have been stopped either end of the bridge some time before the collision. As if the was a pre-alert of some sort.

Still damn poor quality, though. I had the urge to have a KFC meal deal a few months ago. Lukewarm chips, chicken that was watery and quite slimy and the coating was barely noticeable as southern fried. Never again.

Do you have a period of time before the renewal becomes "live"? If so, do the comparison site search thing. I did, and found a reputable insurance through Royal Bank of Scotland for about the same as my insurance co. before they put their prices up.

I'm not sure what that response means. I know some about the Russian revolution and the overthrow of the imperialists who were replaced by the Bolsheviks. WW1 caused Russia severe hardship, to the brink of famine leading to an uprising of the Russian people opposed to Russia's involvement in WW1, because of the hardship it was creating. That allowed Lenin to gain power and there was a coup and the Bolsheviks took control. The difference is now, there's no obvious hardship, there's unlikely to be a famine, so an uprising of different factions opposing Putin and the Russian state is unlikely. Propaganda and actions which generate fear among the populace, is a very powerful political tool in supressing opposition.
-
Do you truly believe that the average Russian citizen will form some sort of rebellion against the Russian state? You've read what has happened to opponents of Putin, I assume?
-
Why? This mantra that keeps getting trotted out that, because we won the PL title and then the FA cup, that the PL and the FA have got it in for us, is just ludicrous. I'm not denying the possibility of corruption within these organisations but the chances of us winning either of those trophies again is minimal and certainly not enough to cause the PL or the FA any concerns that might result in them behaving corruptly towards us is IMO, conspiracy theorising at it's extreme.
-
They won't. They will likely see it as a an isolated attack that will result in some response, but not "militarily". They've got the Stasi for that. Most Russian's believe in the war in Ukraine and will continue to support the army being there rather than being pulled back to counter a negligible (in the scheme of things) incident.
