Shifting the current discussion from the Gen News thread to here... Does anyone have any advice, or resources, on good ways to deal with thanatophobia? I've had some issues with medical anxiety recently, and that appears to be the chief driver of it.
-
Yep. That is the most accurate summation I can think of.
-
Big topic. Tricky one, too. For me I think it's the idea of oblivion that's the scary part, rather than the thing itself, if that makes any sense. Perhaps it's one more suited to the Depression thread on here, though.

This one? Had that one too.

Littler hits consecutive 170 finishes to win the Premier League night against MvG. When he's on form, it's sometimes insane to watch.

A couple of classics.

I'm looking for a clear, concise (or not) take on the topic itself rather than simply presenting the news as a "topic of interest" in an attempt to appear dispassionate about it. Though the inference here about people "sleeping on the job" gives at least a partial picture, thank you. No obligation to give a further explanation, of course.

My first computer was an Amiga 500. Those were the days.

It's possible. This is a highly loaded issue and it does need careful scrutiny.

Well, for starters, the motivation of the poster, and also the meaning of the phrase "Is the EU finally waking up?". Sorry if that wasn't clear. The tone of the content of the post appears reasonably obvious, to be honest, but I'm interested in hearing other takes on it.

That's the logical position to take, but speaking personally, thanatophobia is something I struggle with a very great deal and its difficult to shake off. Don't even know how I can - the idea that one moment I'm here, then the next - what, exactly? - scares me. The topic itself is pretty fraught and IMO there's no real right position to take. Case by case basis seems the best of some very difficult options.
-
I'm sorry, but this continues to be rather obtuse by mentioning the facts about the action itself but discussing nothing regarding the motivation behind it and the motivations of the source posting it.
-
That was some hit.

I'm not sure there are many on here who have specifically derided the UKs scientific research capability, considering its one of the areas where the UK does still punch far above its weight class (in spite of the contempt that a lot of people show towards the scientific community in recent times). Rather, we are entering an age where such research needs to be done collaboratively, not competitively, or it will be to the detriment of everyone. On the breakthrough itself, it's remarkable stuff, and here's hoping it can be applied for practical use at some point in the not too distant future.

They genuinely consider the lives of other living, breathing human beings to be unimportant to them.
-
Thanks, but it doesn't really tell us much more regarding the aforementioned motivations.

About the events discussed? Doesn't look to be. But that's rather deflecting from the far more important question regarding the motivation for such events in the first place - both their ethical and practical necessity.
-
Thank you, however I was thinking more of clarity for the motivation behind the legislation and why it's in any way desirable, rather than the event of the legislation itself.

And just a quick reminder on the topic above, if someone argues for stronger border controls and at the same time argues for foreign or scientific policy decisions that will obviously increase the amount of displaced people, they are essentially arguing for those people to suffer and die, apparently purely for their own benefit.
-
...I think an elaboration is called for here. Particularly for quoting what appears to be a rather blatantly white supremacist Twitter source.

Wash your mouth out with that comparison, mate. He's not even brave enough to be James Johnson. But, more seriously, I was thinking more about the proliferation of digital information and the problems it represents. I know, shocking, isn't it? It's just a bit scary though that there's still far too many people who will only see that one policy issue and screw us all.

Caught a glimpse of Tice on Breakfast today. Just wish that someone would have the courage to ask him and/or Farage the following: "Why should the British voting public trust any of your foreign or scientific policy decisions when your policy platform on the most important current parts of those two areas appear to be directly against international law, opinion and the consensus of scientific data?"

I know we've talked about this before, but it's rather darkly amazing how much the creators of both Deus Ex and MGS2, even made at the turn of the Millennium, got right about today.
