The thing about the PL these days is that it’s about systems. Individual brilliance really isn’t much of a thing. Ipswich have a system and they sign players to fit into that system. Brighton, Brentford, even Forest have all done that effectively. Funnily enough we had a system last season that was effective for the most part. The clear and obvious solution to Maresca was to find a coach (regardless of their past success) that uses a very similar system, and then signings could be made which fit into that system. For us however, a lack of vision post Maresca have left us screwed because none of our signings are system players, they’re players who can do individual things very well but not much else. That doesn’t work in 2024/25. The club is set up like it’s competing in the championship in 2004/05.

Football has always overlapped with societal issues. Celtic and Rangers whole existence lies on sectarian and political stances for example. There will always be a political element to the sport, as it’s cultural.

Isn’t it just lack of creativity and incompetence rather than anything more sinister?

One of the embarrassing things about the sticker is that this current government are working on the football governance bill that does more for supporters than pretty much any government in the past.

But aren’t a lot of these issues general and not just a Leicester issue? I also don’t think it’s justification for heavy handedness in terms of ID checks, banning orders and the club outright going to war with its own supporters. Obviously if someone was being racist or discriminatory towards others, then I condemn that in every sense of the word.
