Over the course of this period, our introductory board, the ownership group and its advisors have been reviewing all aspects of the organisation in order to develop a structure on both the sporting and business side that can lay the foundations for the future growth, success and sustainability of Burton Albion. As an ownership group we have taken a lot from this time. We accept that we have made mistakes along the way, and we have also made adjustments where necessary to the plans we had mapped out when we first arrived last summer. We are confident that all of this experience will be of great benefit now we have navigated the ownership handover period with the Robinson family and approach a new phase where we start to build up the organisation that will form the BAFC of the future and lay the foundations for the next 75 years of sustainable success for the football club. Our core aim has always been centred on the club being self-sustainable and we remain committed to delivering on this although we have to admit that this transitional season has been far from a sustainable one as we have made significant financial losses. This trend cannot continue. To deliver our vision of making Burton Albion a self-sustainable and successful League One football club we wanted to share with you our next steps on this journey. OWNERSHIP Last summer, NFG comprised 10 Nordic families with the aim of inviting more to join in the majority ownership of the club. We have since collectively agreed to change this strategy going forward and will now also consider non-Nordic partners that share our values and ambitions. Still, we will only take on new partners if and when the right ones present themselves, and we have not set out a timeline for this. Part of this strategic change will also see us restructure the ownership group, allowing us to add new names to the fold as and when appropriate. BOARD The roles and responsibilities of our existing board members, the ones who have taken us through this period of transition, will now be transferred to a new interim board to oversee the running of the club while the composition of the ownership group is finalised. This new board will support the first phase of building a new senior leadership team designed to take us forward and build on our business plan and the foundations we have laid during our transition year. As a result; Chairman Ole Jakob Strandhagen, Deputy Chairman Tom Davidson, and Commercial Director Kevin C. Skabo will step down from their positions on the board, following on from the previous announcement around the departure of fellow board member and Sporting Director Bendik Hareide last year. During this period, Wouter Gudde will take up the role of Interim Chairman and CEO of Burton Albion. Wouter has been with the club in an advisory capacity since March and has a vast background in football as a professional player, Chief Commercial Officer at Excelsior and CEO of Groningen in the Netherlands’ Eredivisie. He has since set up his own consultancy, where he supports clubs in their start-up and transformation phases. For now, working alongside Wouter as the ownership’s representatives on the club’s board will be Ólafur Páll Snorrason and Robert Ulfarsson. Ólafur has led NFG's Sporting Committee and acted as NFG’s interim Sporting Director since the departure of Bendik Hareide. Robert is a member of NFG’s Investor Advisory Board since before NFG came in as custodians of the club. DAY-TO-DAY LEADERSHIP We are pleased to announce the appointments of Richard Dorman as Sporting Director, and Tom Mahon as Chief Operating Officer, who both start with immediate effect. Combined, they will look after two core pillars of the club; the football and business operations. Richard is a former professional footballer who started out at Blackburn Rovers, before moving to the United States and later Finland, where he eventually transitioned to the off-field role of Technical Director at SJK Seinäjoki. He will be responsible for managing the recruitment of new players and staff, working with the board and Head Coach in the search for footballing success and sustainability. Tom has extensive experience in football having previously worked for almost 15 years at Manchester City and, most recently, as COO at Stockport County. He will lead the process of increasing our revenue on both the club and community sides of the business - on and away from matchdays. As owners we remain fully committed to our long-term ambitions for Burton Albion and will constantly evaluate every option when it comes to achieving this. Nothing is more important than safeguarding a self-sustaining and successful future in League One. That is the very foundation upon everything else must be built as a club, community trust and as ambassadors for the town. Considering the major losses made during this transitional year, we have to be shrewd with the decisions we make in the future to be able to fulfil our ultimate vision of success through self-sustainability. We also have to take some tough decisions going forward.
