Russell Martin - Confirmed as First Team Manager
moore_94 replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
https://www.lcfc.com/media-article/russell-martin-appointed-leicester-city-first-team-manager-lcfc-press-release We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Russell Martin as Leicester City’s new First Team Manager. Russell, who has managed more than 250 games and combines extensive coaching experience with a playing career at the highest level of English football, has signed a contract until 2029 and begins work immediately as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign. The 40-year-old has earned widespread recognition for his commitment to progressive football, player development and strong team culture during successful spells with MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton. Leicester City First Team Manager Russell Martin, said: “I’m delighted to be here and excited to begin working with the players and staff. This is a Club with great history, strong support and high expectations, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the Club, the city and the supporters. “My immediate focus is on the team: building strong relationships, setting clear standards and creating performances that Leicester City supporters can connect with and be proud of.” Leicester City Chief Football Officer Jon Rudkin said: “Russell’s appointment follows a thorough process and reflects the qualities that are important for Leicester City. He is a strong leader, a clear decision-maker and someone with a defined way of working. “He understands the responsibility that comes with leading the team and he is well placed to help us move forward with purpose and direction.” Leicester City Sporting Director James McCarron said: "Russell will be supported by a football structure focused on alignment, accountability and high standards. Our role is to make sure the right environment is in place around the team. That means creating an environment where players and staff can perform at their best, strengthening the culture across the football operation and ensuring our work in recruitment, development and performance is aligned and consistent.” Russell’s extensive playing career saw him make 579 appearances for the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Peterborough United, Norwich City, Rangers, Walsall and MK Dons – with over half of those appearances coming for Norwich City. His first managerial position was with MK Dons in November 2019 in League One, where his style of play earned many plaudits, leading to a move to Swansea City in the summer of 2021. After two seasons in the Championship with the South Wales side, he joined Southampton for the 2023/24 season – which included a club-record 25-game unbeaten run that ultimately led to promotion to the Premier League. -

Imagine trusting Russell Martin, a very one dimensional manager tactically, with one of the biggest squad rebuilds we have had in a very very very long time He will be sacked by Christmas and the clowns will do the same again and bring in another manager whose style of play is the opposite and doesn’t match the squad at all
-
Would definitely take him as our number 9 for next season

Panathinaikos manager is Jacob Neestrup who was also his manager when we bought him from Kobenhavn Loan with option to buy is likely our best chance with him, no one will want to buy him Panathinaikos and Leicester City have entered negotiations over Victor Kristiansen. The Greek powerhouse, led by head coach Jacob Neestrup, is working to secure the left-back on a one-year loan deal along with an option to buy the 23-year-old Dane.

I haven’t done a pentagon save myself but on this game (and 24) I found with an unemployed no badges save the best “entry point” was Japan / South Korea Within a few seasons you can usually be in the top division at a decent sized club and they usually have decent money as well Might have to give the Pentagon a go if I get bored of Andorra

https://www.lcfc.com/media-article/season-ticket-latest-blue-army-backing-leads-to-cap-increase Season Ticket Latest: Blue Army Backing Leads To Cap Increase We’d like to thank our supporters for their outstanding commitment ahead of the 2026/27 season, with 22,292 Season Tickets already sold for the new campaign. Despite a challenging period for the Club, we’ll have the Blue Army right behind us as we take on League One from August, with a total of 17,954 Season Ticket Holders renewing for 2026/27 - representing a 79.1 per cent renewal rate. A further 4,338 fans secured new Season Tickets during the initial sales period, taking the total number sold to 22,292 before sales were paused for a planned reconciliation process in May. With enquiries over additional availability still high, we have taken the decision to increase the Season Ticket cap for 2026/27 to 23,500, making a further 1,208 Season Tickets available. These additional Season Tickets went on sale from 10am on Monday 15 June. We are grateful to all supporters who renewed and purchased during the initial sales period and to those who have shown such strong interest in joining us for the season ahead.

Our form was getting worse under Marti though, and I think that loss against Oxford in his last game would've just carried it on if he had stayed The club and the players hadn't had the kick in the bollocks of the points deduction yet either and I think that just made everything around the club even worse They are just both shite managers - Rowett did take us down and I see no reason to believe Marti wouldn't have
-
Not sure we would have Marti's average points in the league was 1.31 - over the remaining 17 games that would be 22.27 points We were on 32 points after the Oxford game so lets say 54 points if he carries on his ppg But then you still have to take off the 6 points deduction - leaving us on 48 points and we are still relegated - just 2 more points than we managed under Rowett That also doesn't take into account that our form was getting worse - and also wouldn't include the availability / form of both JJ and Fatawu which made things harder for Rowett than it was for Marti Last 5 PPG - 0.8 Last 8 PPG - 0.875 Last 10 PPG - 1.1 Last 15 PPG - 1.33 Over the remaining games I doubt there would have have been much difference between the two - we may have won a couple more games under Marti but we probably draw less / lose more than we did under Rowett
-
They were both shite The only thing I can really say to defend Rowett is that he came into managing a side that was properly properly shite, confidence ruined, fitness gone etc. whilst Martí had them a lot fresher and still didn't even do that much better Also JJ was carrying an injury through a lot of Rowett's games and Fatawu had completely checked out as well, where as under Martí Fatawu was pretty much a one man match winner for us Would've been interesting to see if we had won that Sheff Wed game under Martí if we didn't still have Bilal who assisted both goals, probably not
-
No doubt he will find something to moan about after the race
-
Bazunu is genuinely Ward levels of bad and Stewart would spend more time with the physio than playing
-
Already looks like there is no point watching anymore of this race after just 5 laps
-
Definitely only appointed Van Nistelrooy because 2 of his 4 games in charge of Man Utd were beating us easily
-
Bazunu, Smallbone, Stewart Nailed on
-
Hmmm annoyingly I think I may have to start my Andorra save again Done some testing and it looks like their B team is not setup properly to be added into a league, which is one of the best bits about managing in Spain Edit: done some more testing today and I just cannot get their B team to get promoted into a league Having to start a new save, found a database that adds the 5th tier so I can add them into there
-
Nahh they are playing Derby for that
-
The ones we don't want to keep
-
Martin sees the potential in Leicester and is one of the most highly-regarded young coaches in British football.

Nice to see Bilal has still got the Leicester gene of not being able to beat the first man with a set piece
-
Would not be surprised if it is Brussell delaying it because he has seen how shite we have been at sorting the backroom staff of previous managers Wants to come in with everyone else already joining rather than wait another 4-6 weeks for his other staff to then join
-
Would not be surprised at all if at least 5 of these pretty much go straight into my senior international squad This guy is definitely the pick of the bunch
