A few things:
1. 6k isn't that far off what you'd be getting from your redundancy after only one year.
2. If another job doesn't materialise soon after your redundancy, you'll spend the lot on living costs
3. Travelling an additional 50 miles every day until you're made redundant is more money wasted, not to mention time. What is it 45-60 minutes per trip? Technically, you'll also be working less for more money.
If offered the job, I'd take it. Yes, you can hold out for your 8k but you'll then be out of a job - unless you're confident that you'll find work almost immediately. The job seems like too good an opportunity to turn down to me.
Those advising you to hang on are just greedy and not looking at the bigger picture.
