Realistic Managerial Replacements
Claudio Fannieri replied to winteriscoming's topic in Leicester City Forum
No point bringing in a no nonsense manager to shake things up because the players will just go above his head complain and down tools and just like Ange at Forest the new guy will be thrown under a bus in less than 2 months. Player power is ridiculous now, you need strong ownership and a culture where the manager is in charge and if you don’t toe the line then you are gone in the next available transfer window. -
I agree several times Marti was frustrated when play slowed, went sideways or backwards yet on occasions when we did play quicker and looked to be positive and move the ball forward with purpose he applauded. As others have said our club has become renowned for players going above the manager in regards to methods, tactics and treatment which makes it nigh on impossible for anyone to come in and really shake this group up or change the culture.
-
Absolutely agree pal, Jay and Johnny from the club went way above and beyond to make the day so memorable and special, Marti was a class act and Kingy is an absolute legend they say never meet your heroes but he was top class as was Riccy P

Trouble is these players barely gave RVN, a hugely successful player an ounce of respect when he tried to raise standards and change the rancid culture at the club, so I really can’t see some of this current mob giving someone like Challinor the time of day. the sooner some of this mob move on the better and then we can fully reset with a focus on young hungry players that buy into a project and a culture of the highest standards. Rather than some who think they are bigger than the club and this division.
-
Honestly think he will get the bullet today, not that I agree with it but I think it will be done as a self preservation exercise and no doubt by the end of the next international break Russell Martin will be in and within 3 months we will be back to where we are today.
-
Every time the going gets tough he picks up a knock another who clearly doesn’t want to be here
-
Ruud came in and raised massive red flags about the culture around the club and how players behaved etc etc and looked what happened, certain players either downed tools or went above the managers head. Honestly even a Sargent Major type would struggle with this group and the current culture. I can only see it changing when certain players move on. The manager doesn’t get a free pass by any means but I do feel that by the fans going after him gets certain others off the hook. Marti is just becoming another in a long line of fall guys for others poor mistakes and a toxic environment within certain elements of the playing squad

Leicester v Middlesboro - Tuesday 4th November

Jakub Riccy Okoli Nelson Aluko Hamza James Fatawu Mavididi Monga Hutchinson -
I really don’t think the problems were tactical yesterday it was all about application and desire they were what was lacking. I honestly think half this lot have checked out. I also think the target this season is promotion at all costs and that has led to a heavier reliance on the experienced players who should still have way more quality to be in the automatic positions, but there is clearly a very toxic environment and culture at the club at he moment. if we sack Cifuentes then that is the 3rd manager in a year who has been thrown under the bus by a certain group of players and i can assure the same will happen again and again until those players leave.
-
I completely understand people have had enough of certain members of the current squad, however booing Jakub every time he is trying to take a goal kick or booing Luke Thomas onto the pitch and then booing his first wayward cross was a step too far. Whether people agree or not with whether either of the above should be in the team, both have come through our academy and both care about the club and I felt getting at both of those players was a bit much Okoli got it as well for a couple of misplaced passes and yet most were clamouring for him to be starting. I understand people are far from happy, it’s nowhere near good enough, but I do feel yesterday that in certain cases, the wrong people are bearing the brunt of the frustrations and I would also include the manager in this, who has inherited an unbalanced squad, numerous players who have clearly checked out and a fairly toxic environment and culture at the club. As a fanbase at some stage we need to back a manager to come in try and turn this oil tanker around but it ain’t going to be overnight, that quick fix we had under Enzo 2 seasons ago has long passed, it was never going to be the same this season. yes we had a lot of players move on and it did need a high number to leave for a number of reasons, but in reality losing players such as Vardy, Ndidi, Justin & even McAteer whilst helping the balance sheet, meant we lost a core of players who still cared about the club whilst still being left with the likes of Faes, Winks, Soumare, VK, Daka etc has left the manager with both hands tied behind his back.
-
Does make me smile to read how shit our players are but then lump on the manager that he is too blame, if we sack Marti that is 3 managers in 51 games at what point do we accept that barring a few, this is a squad full of players who want out, today the majority of players threw the manager under a bus and the fans threw in the towel as soon as we went 1-0 down. we bemoan players for being weak but bloody hell booing every misplaced pass from 20 minutes on was appalling, we back the lads …..bullshit, the players were crap today but so were the crowd, not sure how we expect to blood the youngsters in that environment. Poor show all ends up today.

Remember when Pearson came back and had a real job on his hands which included an expensively assembled squad of players that weren’t gelling. Some of these were on high wages and big fees and there was no magic wand or quick fix. Expectations were high and he had to balance off trying to shift some players on whilst maintaining some sell on potential and trying to build a new culture and win games of football, in reality it took a good season or two for it to settle down and in those early months there were some very inconsistent performances and results. This feels like a very similar situation, with a number of players still here who clearly will not be here long term, however there is still an expectation to be challenging for promotion so the Manager has to balance it off with also exposing young academy players to these high pressured situations, whilst also trying to ensure the atmosphere and culture around the club doesn’t become to toxic for the players he wants long term. Personally he needs more time, and a couple more transfer windows to allow players who want out to get out and then I think we see what he is truly about. Whilst this summer was a start, there is still a nucleus of players who have made it pretty clear they don’t want to be here and unfortunately they are still here at least until January so Marti has to try and balance the expectations of the club, supporters and try to create a positive environment for the younger academy prospects to flourish. He really does need more time.

I know we love to kick the club black and blue and bemoan how far we have fallen, but in this instance I want to praise the club for being absolutely amazing and supportive in my recent challenge for Prostate United. They not only let me run around Seagrave but I also met Birchy and Riccy P got presented with a signed shirt by Marti who took the time out to talk to me and my family and then to top it all off Andy King joined me on my run, what a bloody legend this man is, he loves our club as much as us, he is a diamond of man. Johnny from the media team and Jay the Fan engagement executive were unreal and made sure it was a day that will live with us forever. in a time when we are all questioning where we are as club, I can safely say from my personal experience the club is still good at heart with lots of people living and breathing the spirit of Vichai, yes things have gone wonky no doubt but I honestly believe Foxes Never Quit and in the words of the Birch ……We will return. The support of lots of people on here has been amazing and I can’t thank you enough for the donations, support and love you have given me.
