I realize I am coming late into The Terror(ITV), but two episodes in quite impressed. Excellent British cast, authentic sets, hope it continues on that level.

If your hypothesis that the entire government apparatus turns Republican comes true, it can of course have terrible implications for the wider world. Trump has made veiled threats about withdrawing from NATO, in a way that no previous US President has. He never seems to publicly criticise Putin and is likely to surround himself with ‘yes men’ including military commanders. Just hope this nightmare scenario does not play out.

The only positive for the Democrats is that there is still four months before the election. The next debate is September. Just not sure how they improve the optics without removing Biden.

Just watched the highlights of that debate. What a shitshow. Biden at times looked as though he had just wondered off from his carer and Trump lying his arse off, as only a pathological liar can. Hard to understand why the Democrats couldn’t field another viable candidate. Wonder how many people just won’t bother to vote.

Today we won the adjudication from The Deposit Protection Service, after our previous landlords tried to stiff us for £400 for redecoration costs. This is for a property we rented for 7 years, in which time there had been no redecoration undertaken during our tenancy! Petty bastards, so glad it went against them.

Feel the same, need to remove the tories, but it’s all very meh for me. Jaded by the whole shooting match.

I just wish they would make up their minds, is he ‘sleepy Joe’ or ‘jacked up Joe’? Thing is they can say what they like, because their base will believe anything they’re told. Like to think the independent voters will be more discerning.

The Greens and Lib Dems at least acknowledge its importance in the proposals that appear in their manifestos. As this article states building houses takes time and lots of people won’t be able to afford them anyway. There must be more protection for renters in this country, like there is in much of Europe and beyond.

I don’t think it’s so much that large parts of the population don’t realize, I think it is that many don’t actually care. My partner’s sister lives in a house in North London. She is married with two kids. Her husband is an accountant and earns a significantly above average age. His salary enables them to enjoy a good lifestyle. Now nothing wrong with that so far. However, she believes that if someone does not have a certain expensive item, say a Bugaboo pushchair ( £500-£1,000+) then “ they’re a loser”. I can’t get my head around that attitude, but it’s really not that uncommon.

My partner and I went to our local hustings last night. Probably couple of hundred or so people there, reflecting the demographics of the area ie white and 50 plus. Disappointing, but perhaps not so surprising to see such little representation of people under the age of 30. The Labour and Green Party candidates spoke very well, the Lib guy was quite stolid, the incumbent ( since 2005) Tory was slick and trotted out the not really our fault, it was covid and Putin mantra. The candidates from the Yorkshire and Reform party could have been two random middle age guys from the local pub, discussing what they had just read in the red tops, so not a lot of clarity on display. The Labour candidate seemed to be getting the biggest applause, although we did not stay until the end and missed the inevitable question on immigration. All in all quite predictable. However, highlight of the evening whilst driving to the venue was spotting a suited and booted Aiden Gillen crossing the road just in front of us! 🤩

I am struggling to think what they were. 🤔

I’ve noticed that too. If I want to put on my critic’s hat then the writing could be tighter, as one of the main characters has a homosexual relationship, when there was no hint of that in previous series. I love it though and will catch up on the remaining available episode tonight.
